"Uh....yes."  He picked up his walking pace and began zig-zagging through the rows of parked cars.  Never came back to the tailgater.    Of course, the Bootleg was more of a wild west frontier town thingee back then, so maybe he had reasons to run I didn't know about.

I still subscribe to the Premium Bootleg. Have since it's inception (likewise the Cardboard)  You can get information there that wasn't available elsewhere.  But after a lot of post-2007 mellowing, of late the board angst and vibe  resembles 2006 or  pre-Rose Bowl His Royal Ungratefulness days more and more.

Wasn't that around the time of LW's infamous "he's not young he's bad" post, in which he trashed a good many Stanford players? Perhaps he thought you were an irate parent (I heard there were some).

Hulk's absence has been noted on the bootleg, including an active thread with several posters (including "L") asking for his return.  This board has been referenced several times recently in that and other contexts.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of an influx as a result.  Hopefully the element that Hulk cited as a/the reason for his migration will remain over there.

BTW, funny thing about L -- he's a good guy in the real world, and not at all what you might expect based on his bootleg persona.

I'm morbidly curious.  What do they say about us?  "A bunch of thin-skinned wimps"?

Sorry Yvonne.  I confuse Chad and Mick for the likely reason that aren't both of them Santa Clara grads?

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - yvonne - 01-20-2014

No, Chad went to Westminster University in Utah. (I had to look it up on LinkedIn.)

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - Hulk01 - 01-20-2014

I want to be clear that it wasn't the veterans of the Bootleg that ruined it for me.  It was the newcomers.  There was an influx around the time of the Fiesta Bowl, as if some folks needed Stanford to get to two BCS bowls before they would become fans.  Perhaps it's not surprising that these guys often sound like the bad fans that they are.

It seems that the requirements for discussion declined.  You didn't have to offer any evidence for your point of view.  This meant that you could have a 40 post thread in which 35 of the post were some variation of "No s---."  You could read one of those posts and know nothing that you didn't know when you began.

The etiquette declined, too.  The ops threw out the worst offender but set such a high bar for outrage than everyone else appeared measured and polite by comparison.  I recall vividly that I used to hover my cursor over a thread and start to feel my stomach tighten as I tried to decide, "Should I really click on this?"  When I started experiencing that every day for a week, I decided it was time to go.

Again, the man in Stanford recruiting is Andy D.  He's an Oregon grad but seems to like us quite a bit.  And no one has ever been better at elicting the information we need to decide, "Is he coming or isn't he?"

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - Mick - 01-20-2014

I always like reading smart posters.  There were and are smart posters on both boards, including a number with whom I disagree.  So I remain on both boards, and enjoy both.  But I've spent less and less time on the premium bootleg board.

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - tfeldstein - 01-20-2014

Wow Hulk, fborg just pointed me to this thread and the props to my other persona TMF79!

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - Hulk01 - 01-22-2014

Jeez, guys, shouldn't you keep your personae across boards.  I never knew you were the same guy.

Your call on the 2012 class was crazy good. I remember Msqueri, never someone short of assurance, insisting that it was ridiculous--a favorite word of his--to project anything more than five of the final nine (Shittu, Whitfield, Sanders, Peat, Garnett, Murphy, Winston, Bam Bradley, and Rector).  You called seven.  Lots of posters said we would lose Shittu and Whitfield, a few said we'd miss Sanders, and no one called all three of Peat, Garnett and Murphy.

Seven.

Damn, bowlorbust is tmf?  Who else here is hiding under an alias?

I am Spartacus.

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - Leftcoast - 01-22-2014

No, *I* am Spartacus!

(Seriously, I think some of the Bootleg poobahs asked folks posting elsewhere to use a different name to avoid watering down their brand.)

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - tfeldstein - 01-22-2014

Hulk, I thought you could tell by BOB's pithy style, biting humor and keen sights it was the same guy?  I was one of Rick Jones early subscribers and as a member of the Bootleg initial 21 lifetime embers and good friends of Jim/Lars they felt some ownership over tMF79.

Hence, I preserve that persona for the Bootleg, but really the same guy on all sites I frequent. I guess it's 4 now but on 247 my moniker is "BetterthanLuck."

Stars really aligned for me in 12 and that epic cal. Had some help from a guy with great inside info, but a lot of it was guts and nutrition.  I should have gone all Sherm after that, but kept my cool. Mean streets of South East Evanston kicked in I guess.

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - Bruce Wang - 01-22-2014

I am *NOT* Spartacus!  I am Publius.

Great movie, btw.  One of the greatest.

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - BostonCard - 01-22-2014

Alright Hulk and TMF (and others)... what are your predictions for the current class and others.  Do we sweep what is left (Solomon Thomas, Casey Tucker, Jesse Burkett, Terrence Alexander)?

Burkett is an interesting case.  He's the least stealthy stealth in recent memory.  Historically most stealths commit when they get their admissions offer, as it is uncertainty about their admissions prospects that prompts them to commit elsewhere, but Burkett has been admitted.  Moreover, he was part of the Vandy class that epically collapsed when Franklin went to Penn State.  OTOH, it would be awkward if Stanford poached a recruit from Mason (who I think said publicly that he wouldn't go after Stanford recruits, not that there is all that much worry that someone will decomit from Stanford to go to Vandy), even though the process had started long before Mason was hired.

My guess is that we take 3 of 4; Tucker and Thomas, and one of Alexander (if he is admitted) or Burkett.  Decent likelihood of a sweep; I think it is unlikely we wind up with fewer than 2.

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - Hulk01 - 01-22-2014

I have called for a sweep for months: Tucker, Thomas, Burkett, Alexander, Schultz, Leiataua.  I'm not backing down now.

I don't see a reason to think Burkett is more likely to stick with Vandy now.

Some Stanford fans assume Vanderbilt is closer to his home; that's true by only a few miles.

Franklin is gone and had to be at least as appealing to him as Mason, who hasn't had a chance to show he can head coach.

Vandy does not approach Stanford's profile academically.

and their 2014 cllass looks bad.  Only nine other commits and only one heavier than 210.

His Vandy looks like a courtesy plus a fail-safe.  Barring some disaster he's coming.

Sweep.

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - BostonCard - 01-22-2014

Leiataua is already in the fold:

http://stanford.scout.com/2/1365979.html

I agree that you would think that Burkett would commit, but I also wonder why if he was going to commit, he wouldn't have committed as soon as he found out he was admitted.  Maybe he wants to give the new coach, Mason, a chance to visit him and talk to him.  But maybe there is something he likes about Vandy (or that turned him off about Stanford), or maybe he never wanted to come here but he was facing parental pressure to at least look at Stanford.  Different strokes and all.  Or maybe he just wants to do the "hat" thing on NLOI day.

I still think he's coming, but the longer it goes the more uncertain I become.

BC

P.S.  I assume your "sweep" comment is predicated on favorable admission decisions for those left (I believe just Alexander among are non-commits).

Re: Bootleg Version of best songs thread - tfeldstein - 01-22-2014

I am going to chew on this a bit but I would say we don't get Burkett. At the end of the day I see Thomas and Tucker and Alexander.

I disagree with Hulk about Vandy which is close enough academically, superior socially, geographically desirable and in the SEC. Mason/Haskins are formidable. Shaw is going to rue the day he let Jon Haskins out of his grasp. Our GA/FL/LA/TN pipeline is going to be hurt.

good post TMFBOB, particularly last paragraph.  academically there is a big difference between Stanford/Reptile U and Stanford/Vanderbilt.  if only 1 or 2 losses a year, it will hurt us significantly given how small our overall pool and number of offers are.

I think Burkett will like our OL depth chart

and kudos to Hulk for being a master of understatement ("Some Stanford fans assume Vanderbilt is closer to his home; that's true by only a few miles.").  an hour flight or a five hour flight, it is only a few hours.
