McFadden is finishing his degree and will be working on his father's US Senate campaign.  His football career at Stanford is done.

Fanaika is returning from a 2 year mission, isn't he?  He will in effect be a true frosh who has been away from the game for 2 years.  It may take him a year to get back into playing condition and re-acclimate to the speed of the game.  I would not expect him to contribute much in 2014.

My only hope is that the 1st team solidifies in spring practice so that they can have more time working together.  A key to Stanford's success has been the offensive line's cohesiveness with everyone on the same page.  The center contributes a lot to this.  With Beeler, Schwartzstein and Wilkes over the past few years, we have had some great senior leaders at center.  Center is probably the most important position battle to watch.

Re: 2014 OL - Treebound - 01-15-2014

My biggest concern on the O-Line is at the Tight End position.  Yes, we will miss Yankey, but as others have pointed out, most of these guys have taken numerous reps.  Perhaps without Yankey and DeCastro we will balance our attack and be more creative with our play calling.  The TE spot is what concerns me the most as Luke and others did not step up to fill the Fleener/Toilolo void.  Let's hope our red shirts and ideally Schulz are up to the task.  The re-opening of untouched pages of the playbook next year would be nice.  I love watching Coby run by or run over safeties last year!

I'm trying to figure out who you meant instead of David DeCastro. I can't.

Danser?

Re: 2014 OL - Langdude - 01-15-2014

No, I think that Treebound meant that with a dominant left side over the last several years (DeCastro, Yankey, and I might add Martin), our interior running plays have been dominated by dive left and power right. Though we will still have a dominant left tackle, our talent may be more evened out along the rest of the line. May not run as much power.

Re: 2014 OL - larkinforever - 01-15-2014

With our talented group of WRs, Kelsey Young, and the relatively smaller RBs, maybe we will see slightly less power. I'm extremely excited to see what the 2014 OL will do...

DeCastro played almost exclusively R guard.  Yankey is a L guard.

Oops. You are right. My bad. I guess the notion holds, though, that with dominant guards you run power, left (with DeCastro) or right (with Yankey). Nevertheless, I was trying to interpret what he meant by comparing the two and how without dominant guards our running plays may change. But they may not. Sometimes Shaw sticks with identity over personnel.
