Does Rich-Rod have any major ties to Louisville? Otherwise Arizona to Louisville seems like a lateral coaching move to a worse location. He would also lose the progress his team has made in installing the 3-3-5 where they went from atrocious to OK on D this year.
Louisville's only saving grace would be that winning the ACC looks much easier then winning the Pac-12 these days.

Don't think so. Louisville might throw the cash around -- Strong was, IIRC, one of the top ten best paid coaches at Louisville, and with the Texas buyout, they'll have plenty to bestow on Rodriguez. ACC easier than Pac-12. Rodriguez has been impressive in advancing the program despite having two different quarterbacks, but hasn't been able to hit on a long-term guy (unlike seemingly all the rest of the conference.) So he might see easier terrain in Kentucky.

He used to coach west Virginia, so he must be familiar with the region. Were Louisville and wv ever in the big east together?

This may be why I am not worried about Louisville. Anyone taking the job will be competing against an idealized version of Petrino. Their fan boards are awash in people who will only accept Petrino.
Hardly a dream job.

Mason knows how the game is played, and it only helps him to get the interview experience.
My read is Mason is happy with being DC at Stanford for a few more years and wants a raise. I'm going to bet he gets one.

Mason is in such a great position: at an excellent university, with a top football program,in an area of the country that most people would be thrilled to live, and a head coach who preaches excellence within a sane work environment. He can definitely take his time and carefully choose his next opportunity. Selfishly, I hope he doesn't find that perfect spot for another couple of years, but he also seems like such a good guy that I could hardly regret him moving on if and when the opportunity seems right.
