Here's a speculative theory. Maybe we're holding out giving an offer to Rosen because we're waiting on Chryst, and he, not Rosen, is concerned with playing time. This is total speculation, not based on any facts, knowledge or anything other than Chryst's not having committed, and our not having offered Rosen. Just throwing it out there.

According to this article, Brandon Polk, from Alex Carter's high school, got an offer from Stanford a week ago. This somehow slipped past our attention. He won the AA Virginia state title in the 100 and 200.

1. As an alumnus, Shaw's got the more credible promise about staying put.
2. With the recruiting classes Mora's assembling, UCLA is the South Division school we need to worry about.

Unclear. Charlie Weis looked like a real good coach one year in too.
Meanwhile, SC could fire Kif at the end of the year and hire Gary Patterson or something. SC with a top-flight coach is better than UCLA with a top-flight coach.

I tried to make a meme about our QB logjam along the lines of the first world problem woman ie "Too many great QBs. Can only play 1 at a time". I searched the internet and could not find a picture of a Stanford football player, coach, or even student crying. Did find many pictures of U$C people crying. This one being my favorite.

Sounds like Rosen would have definitely come to Stanford had Chryst committed elsewhere. This might have been a case of be careful for what you wish for.
Also sounds like he'd like to stay in California, and it comes down to the performance of Dykes and Kiffen.
Here's my suggestion to Rosen: take a gap year. Travel the world. Stanford will still be here and stronger than ever.

Would we want to take both? I mean, I know you can't have too many talented QBs, but scholarships are limited and it doesn't seem like a position of need.

Of course.
Typically coaches like to take one QB per year, to make sure you've got a decent depth chart; and then, also, to insulate against the chances of failure. Even though having highly ranked players is typically a better bet than not, 5 star QBs only get drafted 50% of the time.

I want them all. A 5 star every year. Let's be realistic. I can't recall a program getting a 5 star rated QB recruit in consecutive years. The super elite QBs want to start 3-4 seasons. If Rosen wants to start 3-4 seasons with a higher degree of certainty, his best bet is probably UCLA. I don't see things getting better for Kiffen next year so U$C will continue to have a cloud of uncertainty around it. Maybe Dykes pulls off a miracle next year, otherwise my bet is that Rosen is Westwood-bound.
If Rosen has the confidence to come to Stanford, then he will at least demonstrate super elite confidence.

Didn't we get Randy Fasani and Chris Lewis in consecutive years? I thought they were 5-star recruits. Is my memory incorrect?

Maybe if someone transfers but as of now the 2015 Depth chart looks like
RS Sr Hogan
RS Sr Crower
RS Jr Lloyd
RS So Burns
RS Fr Chryst
I just can't see us having 6 QBs on the roster. From my experience even 5 is less than ideal since you usually want a QB + a backup and 2 QBs for the scout team the 5th guy doesn't get many reps during the season and is usually off to the side with the kickers
