Re: another bit of recruiting info... - Kathy - 01-26-2012

Ha ha  ;D . . . how old is your daughter, Lefty? Mine is 25, a veteran texter since cell phones were capable, and she gets annoyed with text shorthand -- always spells out every word, and is incredibly fast at it. If she makes a typo, she sends another text with the corrected word (at least, she does to me). Could be in the genes, but I dinged at her early and often about spelling and grammar in all media.

Well, she was raised on a farm, right? - Redrum - 01-26-2012

Absolutely nothin' else to do but perfect one's texting technique.

My 19-year-old daughter is more like Kathy's child...a stickler for grammar in texts.  I guess it varies from person to person, though there are probably sub-cultures that have their own codes of communication.

A brief note on the original subject of this thread: I think I understand from Bam Bradley's text (after some translation work by this old fart) that he is taking a trip to Univ. of Arizona this weekend.  I think he is just accompanying a friend who has been offered, but who knows.  Maybe he is also considering it.  But he has never mentioned UofA.

Use all your spare recruiting karmic vibes - Redrum - 01-26-2012

--the ones not used on Garnett, Murphy, Peat and Whitfield--  on flipping Hoffpauir.  I am thinking the fog in Montag might be too thick for Bradley to find his way out,  if you get my drift.

She's a city girl now in the deep South who spends a fair bit of time trying to crack the code of Georgia-speak. Talk about sub-cultures!  ;)

Sometimes I wonder what those applications of today's youth look like -- and hope they don't use their texting/IM vocabulary in their college applications. Communication skills have taken a beating over the past few generations.

It's disturbing how many college students hand in papers that include texting/IM-type vocabulary, spelling, grammar and tone.  And since those are the students who were admitted, my guess is that the applications are worse.  (I should note, though, that all of my teaching experience since I finished grad school has been at flagship state universities, so I'm definitely not talking about Stanford-level students.)

Very quiet today. Is everyone waiting on pins and needles on Mr. Garnett's decision?

I am, and I'm not.  I'm waiting to hear the decision, but also getting to the point that I just want Feb. 1 to be here, let the chips fall where the may on all these late-deciding prospects, and start looking forward to Spring Ball.  I keep thinking of Harbaugh's veiled message to SS Deshon Goldson, who was flirting with free agency before signing with the 49ers.  Something like "This train is pulling from the station, and whoever is on it is going for the ride.  If you don't get on, so be it."  I'm sort of feeling like that right now.  If we bring in all the kids who are already committed, and maybe get one or two of this late group, it could be our best class, on paper, in a very long time.  Then, let the coaching/teaching/training begin!

Another recruiting issue worth keeping an eye on:  I've seen some rumors in the last day or so that a current UW commit, WR Michael Rector, may end up switching to Stanford on NSD.  I have NO idea of where or how that rumor got started, but apparently he has been reconsidering his commitment.  Worth looking for the name on February 1.

That's because Lupoi and company are after Cedric Dozier from UCB.  If UW gets Dozier that might make things interesting for us.

Garnett has made a great decision!  I'm hoping Murphy and Peat also matriculate.  Anyone know what is up with Winston?  Has he submitted an application?

I think Winston coming to Stanford is a pipe dream. A quick google search came up with the following article:

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/01/hueytowns_jameis_jaboo_winston.html

Quote:"My commitment to Florida State got stronger this weekend," Winston said Sunday.
