RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - StanfordMatt - 05-12-2025

We made quick work of the Gamecocks. Literally. My buddy texted me about two hours after the match started asking why the video links weren't working. I had to tell him that the links were working fine but the match was already over. 4-0 sweep for the good guys.

We also caught a break with #12 Miss State upsetting #5 Ohio State meaning that we'll face the Bulldogs in the quarters on Friday in Waco. For comparison, Miss State lost to South Carolina, 4-3, in the semifinals of the SEC tournament and beat the Gamecocks, 4-3, in the regular season. We both lost to NC State (the Wolfpack lost in the super regionals as the #9 seed to #8 Columbia) and I believe those were the only common opponents.

Knock on wood, we should get past Miss State which would likely setup a rematch versus #1 Wake Forest. In February, we dropped a 4-2 to decision to the Deacons in Winston-Salem that was closer than the score would suggest.

I'm doubtful this squad has the firepower to walk out of Waco with a title (#2 TCU on the other side of the bracket scares me more than Wake) but it's possible and definitely the best Stanford men's team since 2003 (a team that I'm still convinced would've won it all had Ryan Haviland not gone pro midseason!).

I'm very pleasantly surprised at how the men's team has performed relatively to pre-season expectations. Von Der Schulenberg has been a near lock in the lineup. If Basavareddy had not gone pro, we could have been one of the favorites to win it all (and we still have a chance even without him)!

Adding Basavareddy to this line would have been incredible. That would shift everybody down in the line up. Basing at 4 and Von Der Schulenberg at 5 would nearly automatic wins. And then 3 capable guys fighting to play at #6. Wow

Stanford vs. Mississippi State in the quarterfinals today. Supposed to start at 11 am pacific, but that will be pushed back. The prior match Wake Forest vs. Columbia is still going. Wake won the doubles point in a tiebreaker. Looks like all singles matches going to a 3rd set.

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - PVTree - 05-16-2025

Wow! We win the doubles point on a tie breaker after facing match point at 5-6.

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - BobK - 05-16-2025

Great come back.

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - PVTree - 05-16-2025

Stanford leads 2-0. It looks like the remaining 5 matches are going to a 3rd set.

Nope. Up 3-0. Just need one of the four third setters.

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - PVTree - 05-16-2025

*******

Henry Von Der Schulenburg says not so fast my friend, wins the last 4 games of set 2, and Stanford is up 3-0.

We are down a break in 3 of the last 4 matches so MSU still has a good chance for the comeback.

**********
Now down a break in all 4 remaining matches. We need someone to step up.

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - TheFarm07 - 05-16-2025

Basing just got broken so we are down a break in all 4 remaining matches

Razeghi just broke back, tied at 3-3 all in the third after being double break down

Kang just fell, so it's 3-1 now

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - PVTree - 05-16-2025

Razeghi up 4-3...it may go down to his match unless Banjeree or Basing can break their opponent.

**********

Banerjee and Basing down 5-3, Razeghi tied 4-4.

***********

Razeghi broken.... Down 5-4

*********

Basing with the break, down 5-4 and on serve.

Banerjee held, so forcing Martinez to serve for it

Razeghi fell, now 3-2

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - PVTree - 05-16-2025

Razeghi loses his match.

Basing down 0-40 and Banerjee down 15-30, both down 5-4

Tiebreak!

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - PVTree - 05-16-2025

Basing saves an additional 2 match points to take it to the tie breaker.

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - TheFarm07 - 05-16-2025

Basing held, saved two more match points

It's funny that their teammates also switch sides when the players do

RE: Men's Tennis - spring 2025 - PVTree - 05-16-2025

Wow! Stanford survives and advances.

Easier to celebrate the win that way.
