RE: Other Football Games (Week 3) - BostonCard - 09-18-2021

BYU is making ASU look… not good.

BC

Also, Fresno state is up 13-10 on UCLA.

Didn’t realize Florida came within 2 of Alabama.

BC

Missed 2-point conversion

Now that I saw what Florida dialed up on the two point conversion, I feel better about the STanford brain trust.  What the hell was a that?

Fresno has some athletes, up 20-10 late in second Q. Haener effective.

RE: Other Football Games (Week 3) - Spiny_Norman - 09-18-2021

UCLA looks anemic.

1st half stats
Plays - Fresno 49, UCLA 16
First downs - Fresno 17, UCLA 3

23-10 at the half.

It would be too bad if 2 or 3 Bruins got called for targeting in the 2nd half.

I've been very impressed by ASU and Washington State today.

ASU in particular could win the conference. Washington State just much better than my expectations.

RE: Other Football Games (Week 3) - chrisk - 09-18-2021

UCLA scored 2 touchdoens in less than a minute to take the lead.

And just like that, UCLA looks like they are going to lose on a miraculous last minute drive by Fresno.

Oh Fresno State - how much I missed college football after dark

Jake Haener: incredible performance. I still can't believe it.

The performance by the Fresno State QB Haener was truly one-of-a-kind. Never seen a QB battle through that kind of oblique/hip/? injury that literally had him screaming in pain, then just deliver about four absolute strikes to drive down 75 yards for a winning TD with less than a minute of game clock remaining (and one time out, which they didn't even need).

Guy must have an incredible pain threshold, but to deliver those passes was just superhuman, honestly.

RE: Other Football Games (Week 3) - chrisk - 09-18-2021

Fresno State is 4-0 vs UCLA in last 20 years.

RE: Other Football Games (Week 3) - Phogge - 09-18-2021

Haener puts on one of the most incredible performances in college football history. You had to see it to believe it. He is going to wake up in pain if he is able to go to sleep. Frank Merriwill, Roy Hobbs, Bobby Thomson would be jealous.

Kudos to Chip for seeking Jake out after the game and spending a couple of minutes with him. Too bad this game got buried on the PAC network and finished at 2:30 EDT.

RE: Other Football Games (Week 3) - martyup - 09-18-2021

I was reluctantly cheering for UCLA to win this game, but I was happy to see that Fresno QB fight through pain and lead his Bulldogs to victory.  What a game.  What a performance.  Instant classic.

Fully expect poll voters to keep UCLA in the top 15, LOL.

The Presbyterian Blue Hose, led by the coach that never punts, got beat 72-0 by the Campbell Fighting Camels.  The ESPN stats show that the Blue Hose actually punted once in the game for 23 yards, were 2-8 on 4th down, and were intercepted 7 times.

WSU lost 45-14 to a USC team we beat handily last week.  WSU looked good for a half, then fell apart.

ASU lost to BYU 27-17 in a game where they looked lost for the first half.

Those are two teams that I downgraded after last night.

I read that in the second half, Wazzu was playing their third string, walk on QB.
That might have had something to do with it.

SC was also playing their true freshman backup QB.

True, but he was a four star recruit, not a third string walk on.

RE: Other Football Games (Week 3) - needle - 09-19-2021

ASU had 16 penalties (that's...a lot) and four turnovers (three real ones, one in which an interception ended up being fumbled), but they outgained BYU on the road. Clearly, this team is a mess in a lot of ways, but they are dangerously talented.
