I’m vaxxed. But I probably won’t do this. Too much of a pain in the ass.  I’m already driving over an hour.  Walking a long distance to the stadium. Fighting traffic. ( despite low attendance). Stanford has not done a good job maximizing the experience.

And really, what does it achieve?  The overwhelming medical/scientific evidence is that outdoor transmission is very rare.

The Giants aren’t doing this.  Does anyone know if the Niners are?  I’m thinking  this may be a Santa Clara County mandate issue.

Hell, Stanford football achieves social distancing in the stands even when there is no COVID.  The tailgates are probably more densely populated.

With 50,000 people close together, even outside, rare is not reassuring.

Add to that, the CDC says that even if you are jabbed you can still spread the virus.  If that is true, then these checkpoints serve no purpose other than inconvenience fans.  Stanford has been trying to build back football attendance for years, so I sure hope that the decision to erect these "papers please" checkpoints came from outside the University.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2021/08/11/covid-transmission-among-vaccinated-unvaccinated-what-experts-say/5488398001/

Quote:In that event, health experts said, a fully vaccinated person who gets COVID-19 won’t be contagious for very long and may not have the chance to transmit the virus to another person.

I don't mean to turn this into a COVID thread, so I won't follow-up after posting; feel free to DM me if you have further questions.  I will acknowledge that there was a recent paper that showed that COVID-19 viral loads in vaccinated people with breakthrough infections were similar to those of the unvaccinated (though vaccinated people are much less likely to become infected to begin with).  I think the consensus from what I've read is that vaccination does reduce transmission, though I don't think it is a rock solid consensus.

You are absolutely correct about outdoor transmission; it is very rare even among unvaccinated people (though a four hour period of close contact with people screaming loudly might test that, even outdoors).  You also have to factor in that while spectators will spend most of their time outdoors, they do go inside for concessions, ingress and egress, and to use the bathrooms.  Those encounters can leave people in very close contact in an indoor setting, especially if crowds are present.

All that being said, I am shocked that Stanford didn't find a way to allow pre-verification of vaccination status.

I think it's going to be a pain to get the wristband but am happy to do it if that means all the people in the stadium will be vaccinated.  The game is outdoors but, notwithstanding the jokes about our attendance, there are strangers sitting right next to me, in front and behind me for three to four hours.  That is a lot of close contact.  I wear my mask during Giants games even though it is outdoors because there is no way to know who the high shedding super spreaders are.  Also, this matches the University's approach to vaccination on campus and we have to remember that not every campus decision is made with the primary focus on football/sports attendance.  We are at Stanford, not SC or ND.  Also, Stanford's approach might be overkill but, based on the low level of outbreaks on campus, it clearly works at limiting transmission of the virus.  Will be attending my first indoor women's volleyball match tonight and hope that the attestation method means it is a vaccinated group around me in my seats.  I will feel better at the next one when it will have to be verified.

Cheers,
Pete F.

This is particularly surprising when they are basically forcing us to use a phone app to get into the stadium. One would think they could at least also scan the electronic vaccination certificates from the State of California the same way. Maybe it wouldn't work for people who don't have that, but I would expect it to cut down on the lines for those people who do.

also not sure how it would work if you have a group with tickets all on one phone.

and I know three people so far who have been unable to get the CA vac certificates (including one of my ticketholders), they have had numerous email exchanges and have submitted photos of their vaccination cards but so far no certificate, and the problem has been going on for my ticketholder for seven weeks.

digital photo of vaccine card will suffice:

(from Stanford's website)
For proof of vaccination, individuals 18 and older must show a photo ID that matches the name on their vaccine record. Acceptable proof of vaccination includes a vaccine card (hard copy, paper photocopy, or clear digital photo) or a State of California digital COVID-19 vaccine record. Vaccination documentation must clearly indicate:

I know, she used a photo of the card for the concert at Frost we attended.  And there they did not ask for a photo ID even though the instructions for entry to Frost said you would have to show one.  I also have a photo of my DL photo on my phone to hopefully just show the two pictures if they are both asked for.

This program, like many of the State programs of late, has had serious performance issues. The State has unfortunately done less than one would expect to resolve the issues. It wouldn't work for everybody, but anybody who doesn't have to stand in the tent line would shorten the lines for those who do have to do so.

I hadn't done it until now and it literally took me less than two minutes.  They had a warning at the top that they were experiencing delays in sending the text with the link to the QR code, but mine came almost instantaneously.  So, if you haven't done it yet, it is worth a shot ;-), you might get lucky like I did.

Cheers,

The first time I tried they claimed they didn't have the record of my vaccine (at Stanford no less), but in about a week that got sorted out, so my experience was not bad. Unfortunately several of my neighbors have totally failed over a significant period. They have also been given information by the State on how to "fix it" that was just plain wrong repeatedly. They got their shots at CVS, so it is not as if they were dealing with a "small time operation".

we both got our shots at the same time and place (the SCC vaccination center at the Mountain View community center) and my CA certificate was painless, hers not so much, seven weeks and counting..
