We are at set point on #2.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
BobK - 02-27-2021
And it’s 1-1 match 2
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
martyup - 02-27-2021
And we take the set on #2. On to the 3rd and deciding set. What are the rules for the 3rd?
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 02-27-2021
Third set up to 15 points, win by two.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
BobK - 02-27-2021
Win by two play to 15
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
martyup - 02-27-2021
So evenly matched on #2.
Hodel and Reilly holding their own. They are up 12-10 in the 3rd.
Unbelievable loss on #2. We had two match points. On the second, Hodel got a perfect set and pounded a shot that was dug by Newberry. UCLA went on to win 16-14. Tough loss.

Yes, Hodel is impressive. (I believe her first name is pronounced "Show-lon-ee").
Hodel and Reily had a two match points, but rotated to the "bad side" (wind at back) and could not put it away.
Still, should earn some respect. The rematch this afternoon should be interesting.
Also looking forward to see how Ekstrom and Villapando do.
Nice that the fours (Dailey and Smith) who were shut out yesterday picked up their first win.
BTW, I saw UCLA's Newberry & Sparks make it into the main draw of the Hermosa Beach AVP in 2018.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 02-27-2021
Ekstrom & Villapando really struggled against UCLA's #1 team, losing 12-21, 14-21.
But Stanford's threes (Harvey & Kriz) came through.
Stanford loses 2-3.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
BobK - 02-27-2021
That’s really an excellent match for Stanford. Let’s play 2
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 02-27-2021
UCLA sweeps Stanford in the second meet, 5-0.
Hodel and Ekstrom swapped places, making Hodel and Villapando Stanford's top team.
Well, UCLA was ranked #2 in the pre-season poll, and was national champion in 2018 and 2019. They have a lot of depth. Some UCLA fans were wondering why neither of the Van Winkles was playing.
Stanford takes on Pepperdine tomorrow (pre-season #10), at 11:00am. Doesn't look like there with be video or even live stats.
The Waves lost two (1-4, 0-5) at USC on Thursday.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 02-28-2021
The meet with Pepperdine has been "postponed due to extreme wind conditions". No new date/time set.
Too bad. Stanford is at home next Saturday vs. UCD and SMC.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 02-28-2021
My son said the wind was 30 mph constant with gusts to about 40 mph in the LA area. It's nearly impossible to play in those conditions.
There was not going to be any livestream or live stats for the match. Pepperdine beach volleyball must be on the budget plan.

UCLA coach on Stanford:
“Stanford’s very young, and they look like they’ve improved. (Coach Andrew Fuller) has done a good job with recruiting, and I think Stanford’s going to be making their move maybe this year, maybe next year. I expect them to climb in the rankings, They impressed me with their ability today. They’re making strides, I expect them to be making moves towards the top ten soon.”
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -

Stanford moved up one spot in the AVCA poll from #19 to #18. LBSU dropped a spot, from #16 to #17. UCLA fell from #2 to #4.
Too bad Pepperdine got cancelled; a win could have helped Stanford in the poll, and a loss probably wouldn't have hurt. (Pepperdine went 0-2, but moved up from #10 to #9.)
Their next ranked opponents are #20 ASU (3/25) and #15 Arizona (3/27). Later, the first of three meets with Cal (#8) on April 3rd.
I was hoping they could crack the top ten this year, but it will not be easy. Of course, if they were to upset USC or UCLA later this Spring, that would help.

Stanford takes on unranked UCDavis (Noon) and St. Mary's (4pm) today at home. Looks like there should be a live stream for each event:

Stanford is not playing this weekend. Charlie Ekstrom is a regular guest on this volleyball video podcast, and this week she is joined by Sunny Villapando:

Just noticed that Stanford BVB tweeted a streaming link for today's meet with UC Davis.
But I'm not getting any video. Seems to be some confusion about the time, since Stanford vs. UCD started at Noon.
Edit: it is working in chrome, not firefox for me.
I wish Stanford had included this link on their schedule.

No telling what the score is....
Maya Harvey had a good run serving, I'm guessing she & M.Kriz (at least) are up.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 03-22-2021
I'm seeing Harvey/Kriz match against UC Davis on the Big West Network through Firefox. Harvey/Kriz playing extremely well from the little I watched. Impossible to tell what the score is without a commentator or score on the screen.
UC Davis team not as physical or technically sound as Harvey/Kriz but picking up a bunch of points on scrappy play.
For her height Harvey can put big heat on her hits. Also a dynamic jump topspin serve. Just checked; she's from Hermosa Beach which kinda explains things. Probably been playing on the beach from a young age.

Here's how we will lineup for today's match vs. UC Davis.
1. Ekstrom/Villapando
2. Hodel/Reilly
3. Kriz/Harvey
4. Dailey/Smith
5. Church/Matheson
6. Sharp/Converse
7.Converse/Khazendar
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -

Stanford swept UCD 5-0, per twitter.
Now the big match with Hawaii.
RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball -
johnbar - 03-22-2021
Stanford beats #6 Hawaii, in their first meet of the year; 4-1.
Not sure if if this will do more to boost Stanford or drop Hawaii in the poll.
