RE: Stanford Baseball - Papa John - 02-24-2021

FWIW, Santa Clara took 1 of 3 from #8 UC Santa Barbara last weekend. SCU struck out 37 times in those 3 games, hit .229 and 5 HR, yet scored 18 runs total.

Don't know how much of an advantage that prior experience will be for the Broncos, or maybe Stanford will have an advantage from the scouting material.

Just saw the preview posted in the Stanford Daily. It is not possible to put so little effort into a piece and have it published nonetheless. This is an embarrassing low for a student-led newspaper whose coverage I have enjoyed in the past.

That was the first of CRob's career, which is shocking because he is a chiseled brute of a man

RE: Stanford Baseball - BaseballJunkie - 02-26-2021

Thoughts on opening day:

The team hit four homers. In 16 games last season, the team hit a grand total of two!

Production came up and down the lineup. I expect that will continue all season long, not just from the nine who played yesterday, but from a deep and talented bench that includes Drew Bowser, Henry Gargus, Tommy Troy, Grant Burton, Eddie Park, Vincent Martinez and Austin Kretzschmar.

Pitching is perilously thin. It's going to be a struggle until Williams and Palisch come back. Thank goodness that Beck is a warrior and Grech has a rubber arm.

Yes Crampton made two errors at short yesterday and he made six in 43 chances last season (not good). But he is a very capable defender; just needs to get out of his own head.

Thanks. Great to have you here. Were Crampton’s errors throwing or fielding or??

What's the current attendance policy? Are those actual people in the stands without masks and not social distancing?

Official stats say 0 attendance.

SCU is 1-4, having given up 36 runs in five games.  I thought they'd be better, having gone 12-5 last year with a 3-2 win over Stanford.  C'est la vie.

RE: Stanford Baseball - Phogge - 02-27-2021

Mick in my day the Broncos were usually among the top 5 teams in the country. Played against many guys who at least got a cup of coffee. We managed to beat them one time at Buck Shaw and it was like winning the World Series.

What the hell has happened to them?

RE: Stanford Baseball - BobK - 02-27-2021

Money.
Speaking of is SF State not playing baseball this year?

Bummer. Great day to enjoy a ball game. Happy the team gets to play, though.
