Can we hold UCF to 33 points? Can we score 26?
If I were a dispassionate bettor I’d thane UCF and the over.

Interestingly 32-26 is the exact consensus of this board (at least so far).
It feels a bit like our game against UW two years ago. Now, that one was at home, but I hope the outcome is the same.

Your face, my thane, is as a book where men
May read strange matters. To beguile the time,
Look like the time; bear welcome in your eye,
Your hand, your tongue: look like the innocent flower,
But be the serpent under 't.

one reason I am unlikely to ever win the season championship in these competitions is that I will not pick Stanford to lose.....the other is that even when Stanford does win my picks are generally not all that close to the actual outcome

In following a losing team, a true fan has the luxury of inconsequential optimism. We don't bear any responsibility for losses, but can bathe in the glory of wins. Sometimes the only joy is in the optimism that our team will prevail despite all odds. We bolster such optimism with memories of great upset victories in the past. Some of us who have born witness to the dark days of Stanford football before Harbaugh have a hard time complaining about present day woes. We know it could be far worse and we don't dare even consider a return to that status.

Hey Marty were you around for 0-10 in 1960? Really makes you appreciate Harballs and Shaw. But given the way football was played back then Cactus Jack’s offense was never boring. The NW game was boring and I loath boring. Jury is out on the entertainment value of the current team.

I was in Elway's class of '83. We never went bowling, but we had some great upset wins. Elway took down the Sooners in their house.

I can't bear to pick against Stanford, even though I have a hard time seeing how we do well. UCF's QB's (both Wimbush and the frosh) don't have a great completion rate (31/58 combined, 53%), but they are averging 10.5 YPA, and almost 20 yards per completion, which is really good. Combine that with our questionable safety play to day, and you can imagine Wibush or Gabriel having a field day.

UCF, 38-21. KJ's back so offense "improves".

It is simply TOO SOON to throw in the towel, especially for the sake of puffing out your chest anonymously in a free prediction game on an internet message board! Logically, we deserve to be the heavy underdogs that we are, but we have a better chance of winning than many of you seem to think. At least that's what I'm telling myself this evening! Sooooo....
Henry Hattis Squared - 31
Unworthy Cardinal Foes - 27
1) UCF is a very, very good team but they have played exactly nobody this year. Their stats against massively inferior competition are irrelevant. For example, we routed Rice 62-7 a couple years ago, then went out and got our as*es handed to us by SC, 42-24.
2) KJ is back, and did anyone forget how good he is? We've played only one half with our starting QB.
3) I do not believe we will be athletically overmatched on defense to the same degree as in the SC game, if at all.
4) We've been adjusting to our lack of OL dominance for a while now. I'm going to assume the coaches have a few good ideas about how to relieve the pressure on our young fellas.
5) Henry Hattis. He starts at RT, he starts at RG, he's all day, he's freaking everywhere!
Down with the Knights, I say!

FWIW, and it's not worth much, ESPN's FPI predicts a two-touchdown win by UCF.

Did anyone see what Kansas did to BC? It was shocking considering how poorly they played in week 1. Teams can turn around.

Dang, I had not seen it. So Kansas breaks a 48-game road losing streak against power 5 teams against a previously 2-0 Boston College team, beating them 48-24, and putting up 567 yars of total offense, including a ridiculous 329 yards rushing. This, six days after succumbing to Coastal Carolina 12-7 at home on a game they posted 280 total yards.
Football is weird. BC had been 2-0 having beaten Richmond and Virginia Tech.

After years of being over-optimistic in this score prediction game in the past, I promised myself this year I would pick Stanford to lose three or four times, so after USC (which I did not predict), I’m currently picking the remaining losses to be UCF, Washington State, and Notre Dame.
Stanford can and should win this game. As far as I’m concerned, UCF haven’t proven anything against good competition. They’ve shown themselves to be susceptible to the running game, and I think Cameron Scarlett is way way underappreciated and under-estimated. He may be the hero of this game and show the world how good he’s become. I rewatched the USC game, and feel like if we had KJ, we score a lot more points. Maybe not 45, but a lot more than 20.
Re-watching the USC game was worrisome in terms of pass coverage. Everyone’s gripes about the thinness at safety Were prescient. I had to keep referring to the roster list to try to keep track of all the different defensive backs we tried throwing in there to slow the SC aerial attack. USC finally got offensive momentum when they realized we just didn’t have enough backs to cover their elite three receivers, and they realized with what we were showing, Pittman and was going to be open every play. But while UCF has maybe one very good receiver, and one or two more serviceable ones, it’s nothing like USC. I don’t expect Stanford will ever face a wide receiver matchup problem like they did with USC, except maybe Washington State, and maybe, hopefully USC again.
So I really do hope and think Stanford can win. Maybe Scarlett has a coming out party, the tunnel workers’ union returns, and Stanford grinds out over 250 yards running and eats up the clock. Or maybe the defensive line squeezes their running lanes, and gets to their quarterback. Or maybe KJ demonstrates the full power of this offense and wins a shootout.
But I just feel like my heart gets too much in the way, and I just need to pick up a few losses each season. So I’m gonna have to pick this to be one of them. The humid weather, the distance travelled, the two away games in a row, the three brutal opponents in a row, the injuries, the blown assignments and lack of gap discipline I’ve seen especially against USC, the young defensive backs who are not Adebo, the missed tackles, the degree to which this is UCF’s biggest game of the year, it’s just a lot.

The last time I went into a game feeling that a loss was almost a certainty was Oregon 2012 (Oregon 2014 was bad too, but I'll discard that one). So maybe that's a good sign.

The Stanford defense steps up and proves itself. Stanford holds UCF under 30 and that's enough for a win.
