I guess AB's strategy is to sacrifice dollars to play for a championship contending team, and then sign a larger dollar contract a year from now.
But it seems to me, at least from a dollars perspective, he would have made the most by fulfilling his contract with the Raiders.
Maybe he is more interested in winning a Superbowl than earning top salary money ? If so, that's cool.

There is nothing cool about Antonio Brown.

I just can't imagine they expected a "good teammate" to suddenly show up. Not that they care that much about who you really are, they just don't want distractions on the field.
This is a team that acquired/drafted Aaron Hernandez, Josh Gordon, and Randy Moss. The Patriots have no problem bringing talented players with character issues into the fold.
Thus my comment about "who you really are". However, the Pats seem to expect their players to keep quiet about football and team issues. You can't publicly trash Brady because he missed you when you were open, etc. You can murder someone as long as it isn't one of your teammates. I somehow doubt Antonio Brown can keep his mouth shut, unless this whole thing (problem with Roethlisberger, etc.) was an act from beginning to end. I guess that is possible, but somehow I doubt that.

not sure he's taking much if any pay cut to play in New England
"The Patriots have reportedly added an option year worth $20 million onto Antonio Brown's contract for the 2020 season, ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported. The $20 million will reportedly all become guaranteed if the option is executed.
Schefter added that the initial one-year, $15 million deal that New England signed the four-time All-Pro to on Saturday was done to help with cap proration for this season. Brown also received a $9 million signing bonus in the deal."

That's a dummy year to handle the cap hit. They did the same thing with Revis and no one thought that Revis would be on the team in year two. His cap hit would be absurd, $25M or something. I guess we'll see, lots of details still need to be released.

Based on what you've written, it seems like Antonio Brown (and his agent) may have contrived all along to circumvent NFL Rules so that AB would play this season as a Patriot.
Maybe this whole drama, for example the helmet issue and the recent alleged "near physical fight" with Raiders GM Mayock, was part of some planned course of events written by AB and his agent?

Could be. How about throwing $100k worth of rented furnishings out of a window and almost hitting a two year old and his grandfather. Maybe knocking over the mother of his kid was a ploy. Perhaps driving 100 in a 45mph zone was all part of the plan, too. Live streaming players only meetings before a championship game and recording then releasing a private conversation with his coach. Still it could be pre-planned, and I wouldn't put it past him or his agent, or the Patriots. Scumbags and cheaters all.

It's a ploy. He really really wants to play in South Beach, so hopefully the Pats will discard him soon.

Who could have predicted that Antonio Brown would have been cut from the Patriots, 2 days before he was scheduled to make a $5 million signing bonus.
Dang, this is cold.

My guess is that within a week AB will sign with a new team, probably a one year deal for about $2 million guaranteed money.

No chance. The text messages that he sent the artist from the SI story were clearly intimidation, which is explicitly noted as one of the reasons to suspend a player. He's not on the commissioner's exempt list, but if anyone signs him he'll immediately be placed on it. No one is picking him up until the NFL announces his suspension, which he's definitely getting now.
All he had to do was put down the damn phone and he couldn't manage to do it. Unbelievable fall from grace.
