Shouldn't the regional host get the evening game, when local fans aren't at work?

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - BobK - 05-31-2019

Really great crowd today for the Stanford game.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - ca245 - 05-31-2019

The thinking may be that, the regional host, being the highest seed among the four teams, plays the earlier game to get the advantage of a few hours more rest before its next game.
I believe the same scheduling principle is used for the PAC-12 WBB and MBB tournaments.

Yes, indeed... but roughly half as boisterous as tonight’s crowd.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - Robbie - 05-31-2019

Fresno State is steamrolling UCSB.

Currently 8-0 in the fourth inning.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - Hulk01 - 06-01-2019

Oregon State lost.

Now they have to win three consecutive games
with only five hitters and relying on their third and fourth pitchers.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - OutsiderFan - 06-01-2019

The Pac-12 went 2-3 Friday. And UCLA only beat Omaha 5-2.

Stanford pretty clearly the most impressive Pac-12 squad on Day 1.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - d4cohn - 06-01-2019

UCSB first team eliminated from Stanford Regional, as Sac State will get the loser of the second
game tonight.

Mississippi State with an early 4-0 lead in the 1-0 game of their regional.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - OutsiderFan - 06-01-2019

Watched a bit of Game 3.  Surprised UCSB was first team out.  Sac State sure showed more moxy than Cal did.  Then again, Oregon State was also  first team eliminated in their regional.

Hulk was right.  Oregon State was way overrated, living on recent reputation and being last year's CWS champ. Pretty ugly for the Pac-12, with MAYBE Stanford and UCLA getting to the Super Regionals.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - BobK - 06-01-2019

Hulk was right on for sure re Oregon State

The poor showing by Oregon State and cal shows our seed may have been correct.

Somewhat surprised we’re starting Matthiessen tonight. Not saying it’s the wrong decision, just thought Esquer would give the ball to Miller. And I say that knowing Matthiessen was the #2 starter for most of the year.

Although seeing this small strike zone, Matthiessen probably is the right call. Wulff solo shot in the 1st has the Card up 1-0.

Wow, a 1st inning home run for us, and two fabulous defensive plays to get out of the 1st with 1-0 lead.  I haven't watched baseball much this year, but this is an exciting and fabulous start on ESPN3.

At the game. KJ Costello just walked by. Left foot in a boot. Whaaaaat?

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - d4cohn - 06-01-2019

Will is in a groove on the mound right now.

Wow, Handley is an awesome catcher, picking one off at first and then throwing one out with a perfect strike to second.  Announcer J.T. Snow has been giving him a lot of love.

I thought this article on Handley (posted elsewhere already) was well worth a read.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - d4cohn - 06-01-2019

Well, I have seen this movie before in the postseason. No offense putting pressure on our pitchers to be perfect.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - StanfordMatt - 06-01-2019

That was not a great show of composure in the bottom of the 6th. Wilson loses one in the lights in CF to the leadoff hitter. Palisch then walks next man up. Grech comes in and gets a pop up for the first out then catches too much of the plate on an 0-2 pitch that is drilled into RF to load the bases. Next man up ropes one down the LF line to plate two runs. An RBI groundout plates a third run to give Fresno a 4-1 lead. They strand a runner on third to end the inning but we now have three innings to make up a three-run deficit.

RE: Baseball: Stanford Regional - BostonCard - 06-01-2019

Now we are down 6-1.  Looks like we’re going to have to come up the losers bracket.

Now 1-7.  Not good.
