Given that statement, she made the right decision for her. Still, I worry about what happens if injuries and/or failure to develop mean that #40 becomes the high-water mark for her. If tennis is everything and then it isn’t... then what?

Welcome to the life dilemma of every top athlete ever when they age out or injure out of the top echelons of their sport. And I'm not sure a Stanford degree would automatically answer that question. It might be the
means of answering that question, but it would never have been the answer in itself.

She made it clear early on that if she reached the Top 100, college was Plan B.

she's someone who doesn't need to work to earn money, so finding the answer may be harder for her in some ways. (i.e., she has virtually unlimited options to pursue)

back to NCAA tennis for a moment:
UCLA's Andrews and Broomfield, seeded third, beat Michigan for the doubles title. Interesting that they played a 10-point tiebreaker instead of a third set. In singles, Miami player seeded #1, Estela Perez-Somarriba, beat Georgia's #2-seeded Jokic. Gordon's first-set win vs. Jokic looks even better. But I wish Jokic, a sophomore, would turn pro instead of Carle. UNC's Morra, their #4 singles player who beat Arbuthnott in 2 sets in the team semis, made the singles semifinal, showing again how strong the top of UNC's lineup is (5 All-Americans this year--how many did we have, zero?). And they only lose their #5 player to graduation? Bummer.
