RE: WBB: Summer reports - BobK - 07-28-2018

While a bit diffident it’s no no and no.

RE: WBB: Summer reports - CompSci87 - 07-28-2018

Another question is whether coaching for USA basketball gives you a recruiting advantage. Presumably coaches had better not be caught using their time with the athletes to recruit overtly. But even just the reputation boost of being selected as a national team coach must help.

RE: WBB: Summer reports - BobK - 07-28-2018

Or how can it not be a recruiting advantage?   The athlete gets to know first hand the coach and the coaching methods of that individual.

Of course in Louisville’s case he has had 6 or so transfers out in the past 2 years.

There are only so many spots at the national level.  The interactions between players and coaches are scrutinized pretty carefully.

I think an area of greater concern are the multi-year relationships between assistants who work on club teams and the players.  The key issue there is that the assistant will focus on the potential recruit rather than the other players.

USA beats France 92-40 to take the gold. Fran Belibi had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Haley Jones scored 14 points and made the all-tournament team.

An interesting thread on the UConn fan board about the game, with comments about many of the players: https://the-boneyard.com/threads/usa-france-u-17-final.131579/

Brown on the 18 U team.   Also see who else at Stanford has made this national team.

Wow - Nneka, Boothe, and Jos on the same team in 2008.  I didn't realize that.

That is interesting. Also telling that Brown is our first incoming frosh to make the team since Chiney in 2010. Given the vast roster of players on the team in the decade before that, really helps to explain why our teams have been more uneven over the past 6-8 years... (then again, the fact that Boothe and Tinkle were on the team and never really excelled to the next level in the college game shows how speculative this all is even for top recruits.)

RE: WBB: Summer reports - BobK - 07-31-2018

Watching Tinkle play travel ball I posted a number of times over her Stanford career best post footwork and skills I’ve ever seen from a HSer.   Yet coming in with Those posts in front of her she seldom had the chance.
How about praise for the skills she showed playing out of position

Here’s hoping for another uneven Final 4

Yes that stuck a nerve but I’m better now. Lol

if Smith were to make the team and travel to Spain she would miss a week of school

18's beat Argentina. Brown 18 minutes 4pts, 5assists 4 to's. The free throw shooting for these younger players (17s and 18s) is horrible - 12 for 28 for 18s

That is really unfortunate for Prince, you never want to see that.

Brown got the most playing time (if only by 20+ seconds over the next player).  She had 9 points (4/4 from short range, but 0/3 from long range) with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. The 5 steals were nice, but the 4 turnovers were not.
