And Stanford takes the lead on a clutch, two-out single!! Bases still loaded.
Stanford will take a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the ninth. What a potentially back-breaking sequence for Washington, as they were three outs away from an auto-bid into the NCAA tournament. With their RPI at 62 prior to the start of action today, they likely need to win the Pac-12 title to qualify.

Dash robbed of a grand slam! Their CF has had a bad day at the plate but made some key defensive plays for them.
Now to hold them for the 9th!
Congratulations to Esky and the Stanford team for a gutsy performance to become Pac12 Champions!

Pac-12 Champions!!! First conference title since 2004 for the Cardinal. I also don't share the broadcaster's view regarding Washington's NCAA tournament hopes. Their season likely ended, in heartbreaking fashion for them at least, on that sequence in the ninth inning.

What an ending. Playing like a champion

If they do get left out it will be so very painful for UW. That inning cost them not only the win and the sweep, but the autobid to the tournament. The announcers in the Cal @ ASU game that followed our game seem less optimistic about UW's chances than our announcers.

gostanford.com (preliminary?) write-up posted already:
"
SEATTLE – No. 3 Stanford captured its first Pac-12 Conference Championship on Saturday with a dramatic 6-5 comeback against Washington on Saturday at Husky Ballpark.
Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth,
Will Matthiessen's two-run home run tied the game at five before
Nico Hoerner beat out an infield single to score
Alec Wilson with two out. The championship is Stanford's first since 2004 in the first season under Clarke and Elizabeth Nelson Director of Baseball
David Esquer.
Sixteen regional hosts for the NCAA Tournament will be announced on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. PT, followed by the release of the entire postseason field at 9 a.m. on Monday. Stanford is expected to host a regional site for the 17th time in program history."

I think the ball would have hit high on the wall just missing the grandslam.
Some poor base running late in the game. Little very impressive.

Pretty sure UW will still make the tourney. At least that’s what the guys at D1 Baseball are saying.

UW is ranked #63 in the RPI. Sure, RPI is not the be-all end-all, but their overall record is only 30-23, and they have some
bad losses in the non-conference, including a series split at Sacramento State, a 3-out-of-4 home series loss to Illinois State, non-conference home losses to UT Rio Grande Valley, Seattle U., Portland University etc. The Pac-12, compared to the ACC and the SEC (and even frankly, the AAC and Big Ten), is relatively weak this year, so all the way around, that profile isn't getting it done, in my estimation. In many prognostications, UW was in the last four in/first four out, so it will probably be close. However, I think there are more deserving teams.

Basically, given all the automatic bids, Washington has to be considered in the top 46 in the country, 17 ahead of where the RPI has them.
To get to the top 46, the Huskies will have jump ahead of all of Missouri, Illinois, Arizona, West Virginia, and South Alabama. Missouri looks the most deserving: Four more wins than the Huskies despite playing in a tougher conference, and with a pitiless record against teams ranked 101st--last: 14-1. The Huskies are an ugly 16-12 against those teams, including five losses to teams ranked outside the top 175.
I am going with Missouri, and Illinois has as good a chance as the Huskies for what would be the 65th spot.

You're right. I was watching on a small phone screen with the sound turned down. When I checked out the DVR it didn't look like the CF went over the fence to bring it back. I stand corrected. But I'm not arguing with the results! I saw some alumni discussing that D. Stephens was at the game and was the "good luck charm."

Illinois actually beat UW 7-1 on a neutral field, so I would definitely have them ahead of UW too, with a better overall record and higher RPI too. I think given all of those bad losses in the non-conference, and the standing of the Pac-12 nationally compared to other conferences, it would be a mistake to put Washington in the field. I mean, they had their chance on their home field, with a 2-run lead in the top of the ninth, to ensure their bid and they couldn't close the deal. I know it is tough to come that close, but that is way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
