Winflop, the problem is that you're conflating two separate issues:

1) The Pac-12 has late kickoffs.
2) Stanford has gotten hosed in Voldemort voting.

The former is due to geography, unless you want to move California to the east coast there's nothing you can do about it. We're the further west, the day is later here so games that start at a given local time start after ones to the east, so you put them on later. As stated above this actually helps the Pac-12 with exposure, I still have no idea why anyone thinks Bryce Love would get more attention if we were playing afternoon games relegated to ESPN2 and going up against the best teams in the B1G/SEC/ACC/Big 12.

As for the latter, I don't really get it. It's not like west-coast players can't win the Voldemort, the Pac has 4 winners this century, way, way above what you'd expect given the number of teams. Sure, USC's 3 helps that a lot, but as long as a Pac-12 team is in the national title picture, they can win it. Stanford's problem, I think, is a combination of usually not being in the national title picture at the end of the season (even in 2015 we were pretty unlikely to get in) and not being a traditional power.

Though that still doesn't explain RG3 getting it over Luck, I have no idea wtf with that one.

Haven't posted in years, but wanted to bring up my biggest gripe about late games: that playing a game earlier means that you make the highlight reels throughout the day, on repeat.

Not sure how much of an impact highlights and mentions have on people's opinions, but if the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mere-exposure_effect has anything to do with fan perception, Playing at 4pm ET means everyone watching the prime time games gets a lot more "exposure" to Love breaking off another 50+ yd TD run throughout the day on repeat because it's probably the best run of the day.

Playing at 10:30pm ET means unless you're staying up for those games, you're missing Love's highlights because (1) nobody watches SportsCenter front to back anymore (2) ESPN has changed their site to only show you homer highlights and (3) by the time Sunday rolls around everyone's watching NFL preview shows.

Sixth man... that's a good point, and I think one that Shaw himself has made.

I think the problem is true as that may be, we are arguing against geography.  As long as the sun sets in the west (and the Pac-12 remains in the west), games in the Pac-12 time zones will be shifted late.

True, but why do *so many* games need to be shifted *so late*? This weekend's conference games have one "early" game starting at 4 Eastern, one starting at 8 Eastern and the rest starting at 9 Eastern or later -- including ours starting at 11 Eastern. I'm near Chicago so it's an hour better but still tests my dedication to catch the game and you can't expect the typical East Coast non-Stanford fan to care. Not all of those will get prime time treatment. I couldn't find the Stanford vs. Utah game on TV and so went to bed after refreshing the game thread here for a while.

Northwestern vs. Penn State was here last weekend and started at 11 am local time. Couldn't we go back to having more afternoon games for the Pac 12 instead of skewing so much to evening games?

The only problem I have with the early games is my wife holds a low opinion of me drinking before 11am.

We had a 1PM game the other day and people were complaining because it was too hot. I don't think there's such a thing as a perfect timeslot.

The ones complaining about the heat were the ones actually in attendance.

The more fundamental problem is that fewer folks (on both sides) show for the early afternoon games.

I expect a pretty good crowd Saturday night, even though many here think alums will blow off the game to go to informal reunion events.
