Interesting.

The highest draft picks of the Willingham years were Kailee Wong, Willie Howard, and Tank Williams, all of whom were 2nd round picks. (Williams was drafted a few months after Willingham left.)

Kwame Harris played for Willingham for two years, then was drafted after spending his last season under Teevens. So Willingham may deserve partial credit for one 1st round pick.

Thank you :D  Of all places to be a homer for Texas football kids at Stanford, this would be the place to do it...and yet I find myself outwardly hedging my bets like a scaredy cat again.  To think I voted for Stanford over U$C in the '07 poll...brb, gonna find some backbone.

Go Trevor!

When in doubt it's a good rule of thumb to give more credit to Willingham than to Buddy. In this case it's two seasons with the former vs. one with the latter, not to mention the recruitment.

ESPN (Kyle Bonagura specifically) thinks that the top NFL prospect on Stanford's current roster is . . . . Peter Kalambayi.

Kalambayi is a mystery to me.  He made a big splash his first year, but he's been relatively quiet ever since, almost to the point of regressing.  Is there something about our scheme that is complicating things for him?  OLB is pretty demanding in our system.

Think before you leave college early young brothas [Image: 261d_1f3fe.png] ️️It's not worth losing an education chasing money just to go late or undrafted. That degree can change your life! The saddest part to me is most are young black men. Not enough people educating us that we are in a system where there are more of us in jail cells than college dormitories. That paper means something! And if you are blessed to leave early and be a high pick, make sure you make a plan to go back and finish. You owe it to yourself and family. God bless!

Hurray for Meeks! I hope that his peers will pay attention to what he has to say.

Re: Who is the next Round 1 NFL Stanford Player? - BostonCard - 05-01-2017

Speaking of football players getting their degrees, John Lynch (who left early back in 1993) came back and got his degree 20 years later... and was Solomon Thomas' classmate.

I think the key there is "late of undrafted" which I totally agree with.  But that is not the case with Meeks, and if his draft grade were anything but 1st/2nd round I doubt he'd leave early. Same with Schultz.

Interesting story in the PAC 12 potential 2018 draft choices.

Yes Meeks

The media is giving Lynch and Shanahan a lovefest for their NFL draft accomplishments, to wit:

KC Chiefs Beat Writer:  A grade.

Bleacher Report:  49ers earn extra credit for their trade with the Bears. Their work in the first round cancels out a lackluster Day 2.  BR only gave out four solid As, one to the 49ers.

Joe Williams, kicked off UConn for credit card theft, fumbles too much, retired temporarily in 2016.  C

George Kittle, TE, Iowa; deepest TE draft ever, great comparisons, grade: Excellent

Trent Taylor, WR.  5’8” and 4.63 speed (great cone and shuttle, though and he had 136 receptions).  Grade: Poor.

DJ Jones, NT.  Early in 2016, people thought he would be a  first round pic, but he didn’t develop.  319 pounds, 20 plays/game  max.  Grade: Excellent

Pita Taumoepenu, NT.  Undersized pass rusher, had nine sacks.  Agile, great hustle.  Grade good.

Adrian Colbert, DB.  Ran under radar, until (literally) post season bowl game.  Grade:  good.

Some of the tweets about John Lynch’s draft day accomplishments:
“I thought he’d suck.  I was wrong.”
“John Lynch is Danny Ocean."
"John Lynch must have some blackmail on some other front offices."

Bleacher Report on Solomon Thomas:  “You might remember Solomon Thomas from the Sun Bowl, when he looked like Ndamukong Suh and nearly upstaged Trubisky's national coming-out party.”  And gave Thomas an A+ individual grade, right after Trubisky’s D.  And Bleacher Report gave McCaffrey an A.

Sports Illustrated gave Thomas an A and McCaffrey an A-

Overall Niner grades:
Dan Kadar, SB Nation: B-
Mel Kiper, ESPN: A-
Pete Prisco, CBS Sports: A
Chris Burke, SI: A-
Nate Davis, USA Today: A
Chad Reuter, NFL.com: B+
Day 1 grade: A
Day 2 grade: C+
Day 3 grade: A
Overall grade: B+

Washington Post says the 49ers were the clear winnner of the draft, consensus grade A-, lowest grade was B-

ESPN thinks Foster is the steal of the draft.

Meeks could always pull a DeShaun Watson by giving up a year of eligibility, getting drafted and graduating in three years, too.  That said, I do appreciate his comments.

Yeah, I gotta think Meeks or Reid is our most likely first round draft pick (either in 2018 or 2019).

I remember Bernie Kosar did that -- graduated with double degrees in Finance and Economics -- and was roundly booed at Miami.  Funny thing, he had two years of eligibility remaining.

I think they did a great job overall, but the trade they made at the top reminds me of P.T. Barnum's famous quote "There's a sucker born every minute" - and my NFL team was the sucker. Clearly Daaa Bearsss have made it clear that neither the 49ers nor the Browns are the worst-run team in the NFL any longer. Daaa Bearsss should have traded all of their picks for new ownership LOL :O

Unless of course Turbisky winds up being a franchise QB... then they will look like geniuses.  I wasn't overly impressed, but he did look good in that last drive against us.

I think regardless of the outcome Chicago paid more draft capital than was necessary, since there didn't seem to be other serious bidders for the pick and SF was not sacrificing anything since they were not interested in Trubisky and drafted the same player they would have drafted at #2 while getting the benefit of paying him less. Having said that, if Trubisky becomes a good long time starter all will be forgotten.
