Well, Burns has certainly developed. Maybe not into an elite QB, but he's far better than he used to be.
I dunno, I'm not terribly concerned about the quarterback position in of itself. I more question why the offense appears to need lots and lots of experience to succeed.

I think Stanford's offensive system is built on an NFL model and there aren't many NFL-ready quarterbacks coming out of high school, no matter how talented their arms or legs. So it takes awhile. Maybe that's why there seem to be these gaps in position quality when the experienced senior graduates.

I just wish we could develop some easy quick short routes. Dink and dunk to keep the linebackers and corners honest. Then CMAC can get some breathing room running the ball.

Hard to throw under intense pressure. And mostly from a four man rush.
Washington and Clemson have electric speed. Including the linebackers. Stanford playing like plodders.
BTW, Cal will be hard to stop.
Davis Mills wowed everybody over the summer. Who knows?

Yeah, I don't think Shaw breaks the record.
Just when it looked like they would be down, they get a QB transfer. They don't need a defense to stop our offense.

I think Snorlax94, Outsider Fan, VFRing98 & a couple of others I may be forgetting are en pointe - sadly, it seems the college game is just too fast for Ryan, maybe for the current OTs as well.Â
Admittedly, we did miss Marx a lot last night. That got me to thinking that we no longer seem to have solid pass protection contributions from the HB position (ala Patch Stewart, Stepfan) either these days. That might help buy Ryan a smidge more time, but not enough to make up for his other shortcomings.

I've been wondering that too. I'm curious if the problem is Bloomgren, not for the reason most people would think, but because being OC/OL coach is too much and he can't do both. I wonder if separating those roles would be helpful.
But it does appear that something needs to change. Then again, we scored ~3.5 points per drive against what appears to be a formidable KSU defense, so it's not like this personnel/scheme is just garbage. This feels a lot like 2014, where things
should come together but mysteriously just aren't.
I want to see what we do against WSU before I really panic.

Yeah, like you I have no idea.
But I'm not sure that everything *should* come together, certainly not with the level of injury the team is suffering. There's only one TE on the roster, basically, with Taboada injured and Smith redshirting. There's only one reliable RB with Love hobbled. WR appears deeper. OL, we know the deal. Same for QB. I'm not sure this adds up to a talented offense as it stands.

That is a weird part of Shaw's injury policy, is that we don't really know how healthy this team is. But it does seem like we're missing a lot of the guys that we were salivating to see out there together.

This is exactly what I said after Northwestern, then our success last year made me eat my words. He has proven that he is a phenomenal offensive line coach. I'm never exactly sure how much of the offense is his and how much is Shaw's, so it is harder to apportion credit and blame for the overall offense. It stands to reason, though, that he would probably do a better job if he could focus on one or the other. But aren't the number of coaches limited? To become more specialized in those positions means becoming less specialized somewhere else, no? So I don't know what the tradeoffs would be.
