I think he's a very effective recruiter, and has been able to do well there. To an extent, he has benefitted from USC's troubles in that regard, but I don't think anyone has questioned his ability to attract elite talent to UCLA. His classes have ranked 12, 3, 20, 9 (and this year it is 16). That's four top-20 classes on the way to a fifth, two top-10 classes. WIth a recruiting record like that, you'd expect UCLA to wind up consistently ranked in the top 15 and competing for a Pac-12 title. And yet... his teams have been borderline top-25 and he has never won the Pac-12. It doesn't help that he's had trouble in big games (Stanford, Oregon, Bowl games).
UCLA's problems used to be that it had underwhelming recruiting given the level of talent in Southern California and its school quality. Mora fixed that, but is now mired in a period where he's underperformed his talent.Â

I honestly worry more about Mora turning things around more than the other California schools.
SC will have the talent, but the expectations are too high that the slightest mis-step implodes their season. That and their O-line doesn't seem to be developing as they should.
Cal is getting last pick of the talent and I don't think their defense is ever going to be solid with the Bear Raid.
