QB Davis Mills (Stanford commit recruiting services say could be elevated to 5 stars)
TE Colby Parkinson (Stanford commit recruiting services say could be elevated to 5 stars)
DB Darnay Holmes (is a 5 star Stanford looks in good shape to land)
OT Foster Sarell (is a 5 star who seems to be a Washington-Stanford battle)
LB Nate McBride (is a 5 star with Stanford in Top 5)
DB Jeffrey Okudah (is a 5 star with Stanford in Top 5, though considered an Ohio State lean)
OG Wyatt Davis (is a 5 star with Stanford in Top 10)*

* Will having DeCastro and Garnett drafted in first round as Guards will pay dividends with a guy like Davis?

We can add Walker Little to this list--he's now a 5 star on Rivals

Re: Class of 2017 - rudruff - 06-06-2016

Sarell, Davis and Little would be quite the OLine haul.

Re: Class of 2017 - Bosco - 06-07-2016

Mills is now an official 5 star:

Re: Class of 2017 - TrumpCard - 06-07-2016

You can add Walker Little to the list of 5-star recruits.  He got a bump to 5 stars on Rivals and he has expressed significant interest in Stanford.

Re: Class of 2017 - OutsiderFan - 06-07-2016

Revised list of Stanford Class of 2017 potential 5 star recruits:

QB Davis Mills (Stanford commit upgraded to 5 stars on Scout, and probably Rivals soon)
OT Walker Little (is a 5 star high on Stanford)
LB Nate McBride (is a 5 star with Stanford in Top 5)
DB Jeffrey Okudah (is a 5 star with Stanford in Top 5, though considered an Ohio State lean)
OG Wyatt Davis (is a 5 star with Stanford in Top 10)

To put this in perspective, the Rivals Team Rankings for 2016 show Alabama with 5 five-star recruits, Clemson with 3, and no one else with more than 2.  I counted 33 five-star recruits total.  Here's the link:  https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2016

Re: Class of 2017 - BostonCard - 06-07-2016

As great as it is to dream, we will not land all the 5-star and potential 5-star recruits.  Some will be unwilling to put in the work to get admitted.  Some will chose to go elsewhere. Some will get dinged by admissions.  But a man can dream!

Re: Class of 2017 - larkinforever - 06-07-2016

Curious if anyone has a sense of whether we are ahead, on schedule or behind with commits, relative to other years?

We have 5 so far, and it looks like we had 8 at this time last year (understanding our signing class was bigger last year).

Wondering because last year seems like we were more in line with some of the other top teams but we are much smaller this year (seems smaller even relative to our smaller signing class).

Re: Class of 2017 - BobK - 06-07-2016

We have 8 commits.  We have 13 openings right now although most of us guess at 16-17 with be the final figure with some attrition.

Re: Class of 2017 - rudruff - 06-07-2016

Mills, Head, Heimuli-Lund, Parkinson, Fisk.

Toss in McElwain and I am still a couple of fingers short.

Can the last two be my choice?

Re: Class of 2017 - Stanford_Cardinals - 06-07-2016

Reid and Heimuli coming back from mission.

Lund may take a mission though, last I read.

Here's the official anouncement of David Mills' fifth star on scout.

Re: Class of 2017 - Hulk01 - 06-08-2016

At this stage--pre-senior year--Luck had a bigger frame and some more zip on his fastball, but in every other respect Mills looks like a better QB prospect.

Re: Class of 2017 - larkinforever - 06-08-2016

After the sturdy QBs we've had since 2009 and anticipate having this year (Luck, Hogan, Chryst/Burns), I take it from everyone's enthusiasm that Mills' slight build (192 lbs.) is not a concern?

Re: Class of 2017 - OutsiderFan - 06-08-2016

Mills is what, 16, 17?  I'm sure he'll be over 200 when he arrives on campus in a year, and probably closer to 220 after a likely redshirt year.  That said, though Mills isn't considered a dual threat, he is super athletic and a very fluid athlete for whom you would trade some size for quickness, body control, and foot speed.

Re: Class of 2017 - Treebound - 06-08-2016

Wow Hulk, that's high praise indeed!    I hope Mills is on par with Andrew's decision making and leadership skills.  Congrats to him on the 5 star ranking.  No let's get some more great linemen and receivers!

Re: Class of 2017 - BostonCard - 06-08-2016

How big was Rosen?  He always looks like he barely fills his shoulder pads.  Ditto Goff.

Goff was 6'4" and 190 pounds, if memory serves.

I was curious about that myself so checked on them before posting my question about Mills.

As recruits, Rosen was 6'4" 206; Goff was 6'4" 190.

Now, Rosen is listed 6'4" 210 (ESPN and UCLA websites); Goff 6'4" 215 at the NFL combine.

As you said BC, I thought both still looked very slightly built last season (Goff might've bulked up some post-Cal, pre-draft).

Re: Class of 2017 - Treebound - 06-08-2016

Knowing Cal, Goff probably bulked up on the UCB 'roid program!  :P

According to the BI blowhards, that's the only way that we've improved.Â
