KZSU announcer: “Stanford pitchers are having trouble gripping the ball.” Say what?

Bases loaded and we are putting in O'Rourke?
10-9 now. Like clockwork.
Two meltdowns in one game.
HBP. Now 10-10. Still one out with the bases loaded.
We lose, 10-11. Wow. The bullpen should take the bus home and think about what they did.

I would have chosen Pancer. Go with the pitchers from TX, MS, GA, AL, OK.

Stanford up 16-3 on Davis. Jones had 7 RBIs

Cut it out, Bobbb. Now 16-6.

And that’s your final. Even the Stanford bullpen couldn’t blow a 13 run lead.

Yikes! Drew Dowd didn't make it out of the first inning. 6-0 kal in the bottom of the first. Our offense can score six runs, but can our bullpen slow kal down?
RE: Stanford Baseball -

Strike zone seems a little tight tonight. Cal six, Stanford nothing top of the second.

Bases loaded, tie game, bottom of the ninth, full count ...
Uuuuuugh! Kretzschmar strikes out.

Yes! Crampton walks to win the game!
Amazing! The bullpen holds them to 1 run after the first inning, and Stanford storms back to tie it, then we get a walk-off walk to win the game.
So many questions - will Mathews still start tomorrow? For how long? Will the bullpen be able to come through again? Why pull Martinez for Rios? Why the heck did kal leave that pitcher in the game when he was obviously losing command?

Great game brobdingnagian win to come back as Stanford did. We all hope for good pitching today

Is it known who the starting pitcher is this afternoon?
RE: Stanford Baseball -
MiniBlueHawkCard - 05-08-2022
I have no insider info but based on the last few weeks I believe someone other than Mathews will start. Most, if not all, of the arms in the bullpen are searching for confidence. The problems seem to magnify as the game grows later. Since Mathews has already thrown twice this weekend I think it would take an all hands on deck approach until at least the fifth or sixth inning to put Mathews in position to go the rest of the way. There is not a shortage of talent or options in the bullpen but in order for this team to compete in June, more reliable arms have to appear!
(Naturally after a post like this we will have a 1-0 type game this afternoon)

Maybe Ty Uber gets the start today?
Another interesting substitution - Kretzschmar for Troy in the top of the ninth. Paid off with Kretzschmar's turn on a clutch double play to prevent Call scoring the go-ahead run. But would have been nice to have Troy up with bases loaded and one out.

Mathews threw 2 innings last night. Suspect he won’t start today.

After a masterful performance from Uber to start, this game is getting reeeel interesting with Pancer in relief.
Phew. We get out of the top of the inning having given up only 2 runs. Could have been worse. We still lead, 5-2 after 7 1/2.
Bowser with his second and third RBIs of the day. Now 7-2.

Not until it became 10-2. Eight run lead with eight outs left.

9 runs, 3 outs. Even Stanford’s bullpen can’t blow this one, right? Right?
