I hope the next line of that song doesn't apply literally.

4-star DE Stephen Herron flips from Michigan to Stanford!

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 07-23-2018

Ah, so my tea leaf reading was correct!  Herron Jr. is the #5 WDE recruit in the class of 2020, and #1 player in Kentucky.

I'm going to pencil in Josh Pakola as another WDE commit and write off DiCosmo.  This will give Stanford the #5 and #11 WDEs in the class of 220. I'm still waiting to learn if Stanford is in fact recruiting Pakola as a DE.

Now the question becomes what about Laiatu Latu? Now showing also as a WDE after previously as an OLB, 247 shows him as making his commitment Jan 19, 2019, the same time Pakola is making a commitment announcement.

If there is a position group that I want everyone from, it is D-Line. Every year.

The staff doesn't seem to have written off DiCosmo yet...

Dumani if I spelled right is returning from his mission and is an ILB

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 07-24-2018

I've asked or hinted at this a couple times without any answers, so let me be more explicit...

Is Stanford recruiting Josh Pakola as a DE by chance? It seems he has played as a stand-up OLB through his High School years, but perhaps he will play with his hand down, and at DE his Senior year of H.S. and/or in college?

There are currently 12 players listed at OLB, and only one (Joey Alfieri) will for sure not be back in 2019.  So it's conceivable if Stanford lands Herron Jr., Pakola, Latu, and DiCosmo, they would then have 15 OLBs on the roster in 2019 all told.  This seems ludicrous to me, and that some of these guys would have to move to DE or ILB.

You may say, Stanford may not get more than Herron and one between the other three.  That's still potentially 13 OLBs on the 2019 roster.  Anyone have any thoughts here?

Having seen Pakola I think he’ll be a DE at Stanford.

We shall see how it shakes  out but remember admissions plays a brobdingnagian role

Are you suggesting admissions may be difficult for him?  The kid has been touting Stanford and how much he wants to go there, for quite a while.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 07-25-2018

That was two different paragraphs.

OF you named a number of players and Admissions will decide on the final class.

I was specifically enquiring if you had any reason to believe Josh Pakola might have difficulty gaining admission.

You will never get it out of Bobbbbbbb. He is part of the Stanford KGB.

Yeah, or sign up for Rivals for a month and find out what Jacob Rayburn has to say on the subject.

And this coincides with a few recent 247 Crystal Ball predictions for Sinclair to Stanford.

Some ND message boards are pre-ordering their sour grapes.

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 07-25-2018

Sinclair has quite an impressive Hudl highlight reel. He plays with intensity, explosiveness and physicality.  Ideally he's probably a Will LB in a 4-3 defense, but at Stanford he's probably a Safety.  But, given how physical he is, I wouldn't rule out some ILB potential for Sinclair a la Andrew Pryts.

Football does seem to have more room for undersized ILBs who can cover a lot of ground in zone defenses these days. Sinclair can certainly move well enough to do that.

No, he's suggesting that not all of "Herron Jr., Pakola, Latu, and DiCosmo" will be in the final class plus there is no guarantee that Joey Alfieri is the only OLB who will not be back in 2019. So your assumption of 15 OLB is probably incorrect.
