Rosemead changes names to Lakewood well before you get to the beach, terminating at PCH some distance from the beach. At one time, my daughter lived in Long Beach not far from Lakewood while my mother-in-law lived on Rosemead in East San Gabriel so we would drive it.   Two other long surface routes to the beach are (So Pas) Garfield/Cherry (LB) and (Pasadena)Los Robles/Atlantic (LB)

As for Liz Taylor, according to Wikipedia, her family moved to “Los Angeles” in 1939 when she was 7. Maybe the story needs refining.  Let me help you…

There were 2 Francis Taylors in the area. A different one lived in Alhambra in 1939. The right one lived at 1719 Fairville Ave in San Gabriel in April 1940 (census) but moved to Beverly Hills by 1942 (draft card). Brother Howard was 2 years older than Liz.

Nothing like some good old-fashioned thread drift to re-launch the CardBoard:

My brother-in-law currently lives just off Rosemead Blvd; my wife's parents lived a stone's throw from Alhambra High; my daughter lives in Long Beach now.  Small world, eh?  We now return you to your regular programming.

"OH: Avery Jackson, 5-10 Sr., The Hockaday School (Dallas, Texas) – In two matches last week against formidable competition, Jackson compiled 43 kills, 38 digs, six blocks and three aces while passing a 2.6. The Stanford beach volleyball recruit also last week became the first player in school history to surpass both 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. Jackson also holds five other school records in the single-match and single-season categories."

Baird has dramatically improved from last year.  It looks like she has completely restructured her hitting mechanics.  Baird is on top of her game.  I hope it lasts.

Ohio State's Londot is an elite hitter.  Stanford did a good job blocking against her.

Nice 3-0 sweep over #15 tOSU tonight.  GO CARD!

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - M T - 09-08-2023

13 aces in 3 sets…. I was impressed

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - cardfan77 - 09-08-2023

Fascinating match. Besides Kipp struggles, there were a lot of things to like.

Serving - tough serving all around with plenty aces to show. It’s seems like the team improved their serving mechanisms especially Oglivie, Baird and Rubin. Stanford’s serving caused a lot of bad passes.

Passing - the team is passing really well thus far which gives Miner multiple options.

Setting - faster sets and more sets to the middle attackers.

Energy- player seems to be having more fun and more competitive

Kipp's timing on her approaches seemed to be off a little against Rice and Ohio st

A team will normally have more service errors than aces. We have gone from minus 12 or so to minus 3. That’s great
Yes Kipp was really off. But Baird really on. We gave Koko a standing O when she came off after her two aces

Two recruits at the game. Any research on who. I have a strong guess on one but no clue on the other

As a 5th year senior you don't expect Baird to improve much more but goodness she has drastically improved her serve receive. She is no longer a liability in the back row and her arm strength seems to have improved.

My guess is that the team doesn't really even track service aces.  They are concerned with the other teams passing stats by server.

Our errors have been 4.2 per set this year.  Way up from 2.8 last year.  But they have been pretty consistent.  The best matches were NCU & Rice at 3.7 and our worst was OSU at 5.3.

My observation is that we have really turned up the service heat.  Rubin and Oglivie in particular but you can tell there is even a greater emphasis on serving tough.

My eye says it is working.  Although I would love to see opponents passing stats.....

I have no idea why schools don't publish real stats.  They all have them.  Heck, my daughters high school and club volleyball teams both have better stats than what Stanford publishes.

True dat!

I'm watching Pac-12 Insider.  They are replaying the lowlights from an Oregon-Washington football game instead of the advertised volleyball.  Is anyone watching this game streaming? If so, please tell me how.

Thanks,
Tony

Edit: the desktop web version says "technical difficulties."  I'm canceling my subscription. :)

Now it's Elway highlights. Although I can appreciate stuff from my day, I tuned in for VB.

The UO-OSU game ended around 6:50 (UO 3-1). So the start of the match will be delayed. Don't know about the "technical difficulties", though.

The Ohio State game started 30 minutes or so last night.  The live stats don't show that the game has started.

Now live stats shows Minnesota 5, Stanford 6.  And Insider is not showing the game.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 09-09-2023

Livestats show game started at 7:30 pm.  Technical difficulties continue on video with alternate programming shown.  Only way to follow match is on livestats at this point in time.

Pringle with two service aces in a row.

Oh well, I guess I can now watch the SC football game.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 09-09-2023

Yeah, go ahead.  I'll post here if video starts working.  What makes this particularly annoying is no problems for the previous match but now for the Stanford match the video doesn't work.

First set over.  No video.
