I spent sophomore year in Twain and it was the best year I had at Stanford.  Admittedly it was, in large part, thanks to a bunch of guys that lived in Roble frosh year.

We remember lamenting our bad draw number.  In retrospect, we would never have had as much fun in the at-the-time brand new Kimball Hall.  I spent a fair amount of time there senior year.  Place seemed boring.  Too new and antiseptic to allow the stunts we pulled in Twain.

Back in the early 90s, Twain had the reputation for being one of the funnest dorms on campus.  To get in, you had to select it ahead of "any Stern".  I'm not sure how Twain's culture started or how long it has persisted.  Does anybody know?

Senior year I was mostly overseas, but came back Spring quarter in order to finish. And yes, I spent that quarter in Twain. I can't say I ever really felt part of that community. But you can count me as a Roble/Twain person. (And Soto freshman year - maybe by mentioning that I can draw a number of Soto people out of the woodwork.)

I lived on 2B as a freshman, 3-Center the next three years, the final two in the same room. I should have claimed homestead rights.


Wrong on two counts, Garvin. First, I loved Roble. Made some friends that I've kept for a long time. The food was great. My sponsor on the floor (1C) was a treasure.


And second, they were raging 1965 hormones.

For anyone who happened to live in Roble 1982-83, "Roble Rhymes"--the name of the Facebook group mentioned by Robbie--was the title of a three-song cassette tape that I co-wrote that year with another Stanford friend. I walked around the dorm and sold copies for something like $5 each to try to recoup the recording costs (which is why we titled it "Roble Rhymes"). I'm still looking for a copy of the cassette so that I can send a digitized version of the recordings, just for kicks, to Sanjay, the moderator of the group. Of course, I know that it's a longshot that anyone would still have a copy, but the greatest upset ever was equally unlikely in the eyes of many.

I realize I have been posting on the forum for quite a while, but I haven't properly introduced myself.

Class of 2007 grad (you can guess that from my name, otherwise I would be a 130-yr old Class of 1907 grad).  Ashamedly, I didn't attend many Stanford games while I was in college, but I did witness in person our 20-14 victory over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl a couple of years ago.

I've predominantly commented on women's basketball (having a dominant women's program awoken my passion for the oft-maligned sport), but I am proud of the success in all our sports and try to catch watching as much of them as possible.

My hopes for the 2015-16 year:

-Return to double digit wins for the football team and contending for the conference title and maybe even a playoff spot (if our O-Line doesn't miss Andrus Peat too much, Hogan stays consistent and not make the occasional boneheaded throw that he's known for, our new defensive starters can continue the legacy of their predecessors and Shaw learns to take a risk or two when warranted)

-A new head MBB coach

-Extend our dominance in the Director's Cup

-Extend our team national championship title streak (either from continuing our dominance (Women's water polo), a return to the title after brief (for them) droughts (women's soccer, women's tennis, women's volleyball, men's water polo) or maybe a surprise winner (this year's version of women's golf)

-Return to the top echelon for women's basketball

-Freshman year (Donner)
-Sophomore year (Narnia)
-Junior year (Burbank for most of the year, beside a quarter abroad at Oxford)
-Senior year (Kimball)

My hopes for the 2015-16 year:
-10+ regular season wins in football, and another conference title
-keep The Streak alive
-another Director's Cup
-another Capital One Cup, women's or men's
-100+ Academic All-Americans (again)
-baseball makes the Super Regionals
-the last season of Johnny Dawkins on the Stanford sideline at Maples (you had to know this one would be in my list)

My Stanford history (class of 1988):
-Freshman year (Wilbur-Madera)
-Sophomore year (Toyon)
-Junior year (Tours fall qtr, Whitman winter/spring)
-Senior year (Whitman)
For younger members of this board, Madera is now Junipero, and Whitman is now the Pi Beta Phi sorority house

Hey all!  I've been a lurker on this website for a couple years now and finally decided to create an account. 

I was a Class of '13 grad and got to live through these recent glory years of Stanford football.  From Toby's last season as a freshman (I got to eat with him + Marecic a couple times in Ricker Dining) to Andrew Luck's last season as a senior (he cut my girlfriend in line at the salad bar in a dining hall).  I still live in the Palo Alto area (my girlfriend is doing a PhD here now), and I'll be returning to the GSB to do my MBA in either 2016 or 2018 (I've been accepted, but I'm deferring to get work experience.. and hopefully make enough money to pay for it..).

My favorite Stanford football game I attended in person: 2010 Triple OT win @ USC.  Awesome road trip with my best friends, and a heart pounding game.  I'm not sure I'll ever see a more exciting football game in person.

My Stanford history:
-Freshman year (FroSoCo) - Dean Bravman's last year.  Although he's my sleeper pick for next Stanford President.
-Sophomore year (FroSoCo) - probably my favorite year at Stanford.  Got to live in a single, met all my closest friends, and first started dating my college sweetheart ("floorcest" :)
-Junior year (Branner)
-Senior year (Haus Mitt)

I created my own major in the School of Engineering.  I studied product design, psychology, and a little bit of computer science.

Welcome amartinSU13 as well!  You were fortunate; I had to go through undergrad during the nadir of the Stanford football program capped by a 1-11 senior season.

Welcome to all the new members (and the older ones just now introducing themselves).  It's great to see new blood joining the Cardboard and folks who were in school during the Shaw and Harbaugh eras will have a lot to add.    (Count yourself lucky, I came to Stanford in then Wiggin era.)
