Mathews has pitched 9 innings. 1-1 tie B9 now. Let’s get him the W!

Aaargh! So frustrating! We're making plenty of contact. But 12 hits, only 1 run.

For just one game, Esquer should prohibit swinging at the first pitch.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - Madera86 - 04-21-2023

I can't watch when we're on the field. Both teams are putting runners in scoring position, but can't bring in a run. How did we get out of that jam in the top of the 15th? Bases loaded, only one out.

Phew! Finally, we hit one out the park. Troy with the walk off in the 16th (!)

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - Spiny_Norman - 04-21-2023

Tommy Troy wins it with a 2 run HR in the bottom of the 16th!

Stanford 3
Washington 1

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - PVTree - 04-21-2023

Watched the Stanford softball team win in extra innings (thought the runner was out at the plate) and the baseball team win in extra innings also (escaped bases loaded in extra innings twice).

Good Stanford sports night.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - JJJ - 04-22-2023

Tommy Troy’s sayonara homerun.

16 hits 3 runs. Must be some kind of record. But I’ll take it.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - PVTree - 04-22-2023

The record broken would more-likely be the number of strike outs our pitching staff had. Some 23... Nearly half of all outs.

No argument there. WA free swingers.

Supposed to be near 80 degrees today. Plus spring football. Think I’ll go Sunday instead.

Might as well post this link here. Washington Post has an article about the increasing importance of velocity in college baseball and the extent that players and programs will go to add MPH to fastballs. No mention of Stanford. Mainly Tennessee, LSU and Wake Forest.

Tangentially relevant is that, per Troy Clardy, the UW pitcher today took his velo from 81mph to 90 in 3 months and now hits 97.

IIRC both Dowd and Pancer added quite a few mph over the summer.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - JJJ - 04-23-2023

The rubber match is streaming on gostanford.com.
Dixon on the mound for us.
Owen Cobb flashing some serious leather early on!

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - JJJ - 04-23-2023

Dixon was cruising for 3.2 innings (6Ks), then suddenly lost the strike zone, walked 3 straight and gave up a granny…

But Moore and Graham hit 2-run bombs and we’re tied after 5.

Dixon still pitching and up to 8Ks now

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - Madera86 - 04-23-2023

Nice at bat from Troy. He battled back from 0-2 against the Washington ace out of the bullpen to draw the walk and bring in the run.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - TonyLima - 04-23-2023

Was gonna say the Ryan Bruno adventure continues. But he really put WA away in the 8th.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - Madera86 - 04-23-2023

Phew. Tough series. Washington has some good pitchers and a good defense. Picked off 4 of our runners, I think?
