on a blitzkrieg 17-0 run in less than 4 minutes to wrestle the lead, 58-53.
I just love the game of Diamond JOHNSON! Loved her since watching her
at the U19 Worlds.

NC State won -- 68-59 because of an amazing 4th quarter in which they could no nothing wrong and Louisville nothing right. What a comeback, NC state down 14 or so at the start of the 4th quarter. Really bought into that "never give up."

The Louisville NC State game was interesting. The first game I saw Louisville play this year I was not impressed. But for the first three quarters of this game I thought Louisville looked like world-beaters. Their defense was astonishing, particularly their trapping zone, and their offense was far better than earlier in the season. I was almost convinced that they deserved their ranking and that I should no longer hope to play them.
But then the fourth quarter happened and Louisville looked pedestrian.
Slightly reminiscent of our comeback against Louisville in the elite 8. They were ahead by 14 halfway through the 3rd quarter, but we caught fire behind Prechtel and outscored them 49-20 the rest of the way. I wonder if there is something about Louisville and their coaching that gets them fired up and effective in the first half, but is ultimately unsustainable for a whole game, causing them to wilt?
I also was astonished at the sell-out crowd, almost no one wearing a mask, screaming at the top of their lungs.

Louisville's collapse in the 4th Q reminds me of some of our cold spells this season. This might be a team sport psychological phenomenon that needs to be studied. I think it might be some version of group/mass hysteria that takes over a team and causes poor performance and bad decisions. If so, there should be some mitigation techniques a coaching staff could utilize to get the team to snap out of it.

Caitlan Clark's demolition of Minnesota (a triple-double, including 35 points) tonight had me wondering if Boston or Clark will be allowed to get POY this season or if they're required to give it to Paige?

Digressing slightly off-topic from current news and slightly random, does anyone remember when women's college basketball switched to four 10-minute quarters rather than two 20-minute halves a few years ago, what was the impetus behind that change?

The big change wasn't the quarters but the fouling system--no one-and-ones. I have wondered if it helps teams that play physically avoid getting as much damage from fouls as they would have under the old system, so long as they spread them out. It also makes accurate free throw shooting a slight bit less important, since you no longer need to ever make a first free throw to be awarded the second. And I am sure it is TV friendly, with two more natural breaks.

With tv timeouts and end of quarter stoppages, the men's game actually has 2 more breaks for commercials than the women's game. I love the quarter format for the women and being able to watch 10 minutes of action with only a single regularly scheduled timeout. It certainly improves the flow for this viewer.

Ayoka Lee, 6'6 junior center for Kansas st, has 55 points with 4 minutes left in game vs Oklahoma. has really nice touch around basket, great hands.

I kept wondering if it was going to be some sort of record. Considering that her team was not ranked and Oklahoma was 14 it was even more remarkable. I am glad we did not play her today. Massey had Kansas State at 20--once again the computer seems more accurate (given the time of the season) than the polls which overlooked teams like Kansas State and Oregon.
