Re: Championship Game Thread - DC 86 - 12-01-2017

Wow, hats off to Helton and to Darnold on that one.

Re: Championship Game Thread - BostonCard - 12-01-2017

Gutsy call, but give them credit.

Re: Championship Game Thread - stupac2 - 12-01-2017

Well, that one hurts. Hopefully we get the Holiday Bowl!

Re: Championship Game Thread - jacketree - 12-01-2017

Man, that was easy.

Not quite a NY6 team this year, but they never quit.

5.6 is cold comfort when giving up the entire field twice IMO.

Walking wounded heading to the bowl.

Re: Championship Game Thread - BostonCard - 12-01-2017

Better team won, as much as it pains me to say.

I am salty right now. Really, really salty :(

Re: Championship Game Thread - JohnR34231 - 12-01-2017

Yeah, you have to (begrudgingly) give the Condoms credit. They made the plays when they had to. Both on offense and on defense.

Great season guys! Proud of your effort tonight!

Come to think of it. Not that gutsy really. Clock implications of run vs pass were pretty much the same.

Re: Championship Game Thread - TRD - 12-01-2017

I hope to hell we have a stud linebacker, some quality D-lineman and at least one cover corner coming in next year.

Re: Championship Game Thread - jacketree - 12-01-2017

Good show tonight will help with bowl. Doubt they’ll be forced to return to Levi’s.

Re: Championship Game Thread - BostonCard - 12-01-2017

It’s more that if it gets stopped we get the ball back at the 32 down 3.  Would only have to go 40 yards to be in field goal range.

A) so far that’s not looking great in this recruiting class
B) we kind of need those guys to already be on the team

Hats off to this team and especially Bryce Love.  Strong effort.  Guts with no glory.

Re: Championship Game Thread. FINAL: USC 31, STAN 28 - ADPATERSON - 12-01-2017

Looks like... HOLIDAY BOWL vs Harbaugh?

Re: Championship Game Thread - stupac2 - 12-01-2017

I'm gonna be really, really curious to see how Helton does next year without Darnold.

As for us, we seem to have found our QB. Costello played fantastic, I can only think of one throw he left on the field. Seems like WiM was right, we probably could've called more passes on early downs, but I get why we did what we did. That horrible call on the "lateral" was costly, but I can't really say that the refs cost us this one, our defense didn't play well for most of the game and the offense wasn't able to compensate.

Oh well, hopefully we get a good bowl matchup, and then on to next year!

Re: Championship Game Thread - Viking_Guy - 12-01-2017

My personal gripe of the year - the STUPID penalties.

The one that changed the season, for example.  Oregon State has a drive extended by an unsportsmanlike conduct call on Edwards.  And we lose Alijah Holder for the season on a subsequent play when his knee gets blown up. Then a targeting call.  Leading to having to play Reid as a nickel back in this game.

Holding penalties are one thing.  PI is one thing.  Continual delay-of-game and silly personal fouls and unsportsmanlike calls?  At some point, that's coaching.

Re: Championship Game Thread - jacketree - 12-01-2017

Which is why Blackledge thought we should have kicked deep. Maybe he’s right.

That sequence inside the 5 did it. And 99 yards.

Re: Championship Game Thread - cardcrimson - 12-01-2017

My point is that the officials blew the call. Not only did we lose the yards, we lost a timeout as well.

That said, two 95+ yard drives given up is pretty disappointing

Not sure where the quote went. . . .

Presumably Holder returns.

Other than the head-to-head there is zero reason for the holiday to pick WSU over us.
Sc to the fiesta
uW to the Alamo (I suppose there is an outside chance they rise to the top-10)
We go to the Holiday
WSU to the Foster Farms
ASU to the Sun
Arizona to Vegas

Nobody else matters.
