Sounds like a good kid. Whether Stanford sees a role for him on the team or not, having Army, Yale, Dartmouth and Penn as a fall back is not bad. I personally would give an edge to kid like this if he had comparable measurables and film compared with a kid from a privileged back ground. His ability to perform on the field and in the classroom despite the chaos of his life and working those jobs shows someone who is driven and will take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way. It sounds like he's the type who will succeed no matter.

It's got to be tough to overcome both parents being SC alums.
That said, SC has a horrible track record of QBs in the NFL. Sure they make it, but then fall flat on their faces. Here is a current list of SC QBs in the NFL:
Matt Barkley
Matt Cassel
Carson Palmer
Mark Sanchez
That's three Pro Bowls between four guys
SC QBs drafted over the past 10 years:
Matt Cassel, 2005
Matt Leinart, 2006
John David Booty, 2008
Mark Sanchez, 2009
Matt Barkley, 2013
And here is Steve Sarkisian's track record of putting QBs into the NFL:

So, if Costello has his sights set on the NFL, he needs to ask himself: Do I just want to make it there, or do I want to succeed?

What school has a consistent recent track record of high performing NFL QBs? I think recruits mostly look at making it to the show. Most schools would kill to have SC's track record of placing QBs in the NFL.
I remember Duke used to get slammed for having all that success in college but not having any stars in the NBA. But that didn't stop the top high school recruits from lining up to sign the LOIs.

Agreed. His story reminds me of that fullback that we wanted a few years ago, who was also homeless for a while -- and yet despite that incredible story, was still rejected by admissions. IIRC, he ended up going to Wisconsin and doing well there. I wonder what he's doing now.
