The team is physically healthy and excited for this year with goal of winning it all. The pandemic made the experience difficult for the team in many ways - that this year for the first time has begun to seem normal. Starting with the trip to Eastern Europe (Slovenia was a favorite), the team was able to spend time together getting close and then have a normal training schedule this summer. Classes in person finally gave them a chance to experience the specialness that is Stanford University including their classmates.

With teammates healthy, especially Sami, and the added fire power, Kami has a full arsenal to work with. They have added new wrinkles to the offense and plan to play quicker. Kevin continues to incorporate more play like the men.

They talked about Kevin wanting them to be well rounded and good at all aspects and familiar with more positions and roles. I think it’ll help them be more connected on the court, knowing what all their teammates are doing and thinking.

Outstanding report.  Quicker offense is music to my ears.  If you attend some of the home games, please post your observations.

I finally noticed that Friday's match at Northern Colorado is on ESPN+.
I guess it's a good thing I didn't cancel my subscription.

Curious if anyone will be at the Sept 3 match at Texas.  I will still be in Hawai'i following the football game that weekend.

Lengthy Volleyballmag.com article.  This is as much hype as a team in any college sport will get.  I will post some excerpts:

https://volleyballmag.com/stanford-ncaa-womens-volleyball-082423/

The only starter not on the list is redshirt-senior middle McKenna Vicini, who led Stanford in blocks last year with 40 more than Kipp. And Vicini led the Pac-12 in hitting percentage (.427).

Kipp, Miner and Oglivie might be the three best players at their respective positions in the nation; Kipp and Miner for sure;

The 6-foot Miner... has stayed healthy throughout her first two years as she’s established herself as the next great American setter...      “Seriously, every single day in practice, I don’t even know how to describe it. Some balls she sets, it’s insane,” Rubin said.

Rubin laughed out loud at herself.   “I didn’t think there was a lot I was going to learn in college, that I had reached that point and I was so wrong about that. That was awesome.”

On the topic of player's thoughts about traveling to play the best teams, here's a few quotes"

Stanford starts in Colorado, where it plays at Northern Colorado of the Big Sky on Friday and at the Mountain West’s Colorado State on Saturday. Then they’re home for No. 11 Florida of the SEC, and then it’s on to No. 1 Texas of the Big 12 in the most anticipated pre-conference match of the season.

Two days later Stanford goes to No. 23 Rice of the American Athletic Conference before returning home for a weekend in which it plays No. 7 Minnesota and No. 14 Ohio State of the Big Ten. And before the final Pac-12 season begins, Stanford is home for No. 5 Nebraska of the Big Ten and goes to No. 4 Louisville of the ACC.

“Kevin loves it, and we all love it, too,” Francis said.

“We wouldn’t have it any other way,” Miner said.

At times I thought this day would never get here but finally the first match of 2023.  Northern Colorado made the NCAA tournament last year so they should not be taken lightly.

We take the set 25-23. Wow not a great look with two starters out

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 08-25-2023

In the first set Miner, Oglivie, and Harvey played well.  The player I was most pleasantly surprised with was Harvey.

Yeah that was a slow start which might be expected with two surprise starters.
