That game was so ugly I am wiped out and almost feel be as happy as I know I am.  Or after so many years being a fan I just can't believe it.  We are the champs!!!!!!!!!!!!  Finally.  Congrats to Tara, the team, all the coaches and support staff.  It was certainly not the best game the team can play, but they got it done, and that's what counts.  Amazing!!!!!!!!

That's what tough defense does.  Both teams playing aggressive defense.  Unfortunately some casual fans will see the turn overs and missed shots as a bad quality of basketball by the PAC-12.

Well, I guess it was good enough quality for the Pac-12 to own the title game.  It ain't pretty if you don't win. All the "pretty" basketball playing teams were watching from home.

We could use a lot more Tara VanDerveers in this world.  Not just in coaching.  In all positions of power.  As in, 100 of them, at least.

Fully agree. So happy for Tara, who has given Stanford and women’s basketball so very, very much. It wasn’t pretty but it was well-deserved.

Game was fairly predictable. We won, but it wasn't easy.
At any rate congrats to the team.

Haley Jones really came up big on the big stage! She was the one who made the offensive plays when the team needed a boost. Brink was a force on both ends of the court. Lexie Hull brought her normal intensity.

But the big star was the defense. The defense played really well and took away what Arizona wanted to do. They held McDonald to 5 for 20, which made the difference.

That was a frustrating performance by Stanford in some ways. But when they needed it, they relied on defense, they dug deep, and they made just enough plays.

Go Cardinal!

What a season! Champions again!

I agree.  We don't get here without Kiana but I think she let the pressure of playing at home get to her and her last three games were really really bad.

When I got to campus in 1993, we were the defending national champions, and over the years I was there, we had an elite and deep team (one that reminds me of this team), with Kate Starbird, Jamila Wideman, Charmin Smith, and Naomi Mouitaopele and Olympia Scott inside with Vanessa Nygaard and Kristin Folkl coming off the bench! It's hard to believe that after we fell to ODU in the National Semi-final in 1997, we would have a bit of a drought... and then that we wouldn't win a national title for 29 years after our last one.

So happy for Tara Vanderveer.

I'm not sure why, but I keep going back and looking at the box score of the game.  Why?  It's over.  Stanford won it.  The stats are now irrelevant. It is still sinking in.

Kiana scored 5 points in a game that we won by 1.  We give her the same ring that we give everyone else on the team, and she gets to wear it just as proudly.

Congrats to Stanford

I am sure all fans aged the past two games in the last seconds.

Big Congrats to Tara.

Class staff and school.

Also, we are probably not even playing in the national championship game but for Kiana Williams.

Lexie had a double double in the NC game, 10 points and 10 rebounds.  She is a true All-American.

RE: STANFORD 54, Arizona 53; we are the CHAMPIONS! - BostonCard - 04-04-2021

The all-tournament team:

MOP Haley Jones
Lexie Hull
Aari McDonald
Zia Cooke
Paige Bueckers

Seems about right to me.

Classy.  And you will notice that the first thing that both Kiana Williams and Tara Vanderveer said in their interviews was to congratulate Arizona.

If they are looking at the same box score that I am, Lexie had 10 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 TOs.

Cameron Brink had 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and an assist.

Ashten Prechtel had 7 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

Stanford won the game with a team effort.

For those curious about The Streak, here's a look at the last 45 years of Stanford NCAA champions.

Yes, but how long has it been since only 1 bench player (Prechtel) scored points?  Jerome was the only other bench player that even attempted a shot.

RE: STANFORD 54, Arizona 53; we are the CHAMPIONS! - Hulk01 - 04-04-2021

When 5-6 McDonald launched that shot, she was being defended by 5-10 Anna Wilson, 6-0 Lexie Hulll, and 6-4 Cameron Brink.

In 2019's national championship, BOTH TEAMS had one bench player with points.

UConn's loss to Arizona last round also featured just one bench player for UConn with points. South Carolina's loss to us last round ALSO featured just one bench player on SCAR with points.
