Some intriguing developments on the RB recruiting front.

First of all, Greg Biggins predicted Kenan Christon to USC a couple weeks ago.  Then Stanford offered https://twitter.com/PeatNathaniel/status/1005215043867176960 a couple days ago.

Does this mean Stanford doesn't believe it will get Christon, who reports a 4.4 GPA and makes clear how hard he works in school?  The idea of losing this kid to USC makes me ill.  He's kind of a Bryce Love clone.

Also wonder what Stanford is thinking in terms of RBs. Are they taking two this class, or just one?  If just one, Austin Jones is probably the #1 priority.

Christon has shown zero interest in Stanford. More offers going out since they need/want 2.

I remember seeing somewhere that Ron Gould wanted to take two RBs in this class.

And there it is.  Jones names his Top 5.  Surprised no SEC schools are on his list, and that Utah made it ahead of UW:

I wonder if it's because UW is a more pass-heavy team. If I'm not mistaken, Utah is more rushing orientated. Also about no SEC schools, he must really like the West Coast.

Last time, Salim Muhammad-Turner had really wanted to go to Stanford and got a high enough SAT score to do that. Maybe he really wants to go to Stanford or Texas...

I'm old enough to remember when Josh Garnett was "all Michigan" until he chose Stanford.  Remember similar sentiment with Michigan and Donald Stewart.  Many people thought Solomon Thomas and Walker Little would choose Texas over Stanford too.

I guess. I've only followed Stanford football recruiting only recently so I don't know. And it seems like a blue blood like Texas or Michigan has all to offer and we don't. Honestly, as a blue chip prospect, I'd choose Texas or Michigan over Stanford and I love Stanford.

In any event, his Twitter feed says to stay tuned for a big announcement tomorrow at 6 PM.  FWIW, he reports a 4.2 GPA and 31 ACT.  Reminds me a bit of Chase Beeler.

While I personally have objections about Stanford's admissions standards as it relates to athletes, the fact is Stanford wins recruiting battles because of them. Though they rule out the vast number of recruits, only allowing guys with the GPA and test scores of Bragg, authenticates Stanford's elitism. When Stanford is then positioned as and evidence is presented that it is an opportunity to set you up for life, in addition to being a top level program that also can get you to the next level as an athlete, it has appeal beyond the ephemeral college football experience.

So while I wouldn't rule out recruits with Stanford offers and admissions-worthy academic qualifications bypassing Stanford for other schools, Stanford is always going to be a much more serious contender for such recruits than you might think, regardless of what football powerhouses have also offered especially since Stanford now has a track record or being a Top 20 and higher program that can win conference championships and send guys to the NFL consistently.

Given the short career of a football player, I would never choose Texas over Stanford if I had offers to both schools.

Either are perfectly reasonable choices for you guys personally, but that's rather the point - it depends upon what you value personally.

I don't see that objectively Stanford is missing anything that Texas or Michigan offer. Stanford has certainly been a better football team than Texas lately, and over a decade has been better than Michigan. Stanford has excellent facilities. Stanford puts plenty of guys into the NFL.

What distinguishes Stanford is having to perform academically to get in, having to perform academically after arriving, rather smaller crowds, and somewhat lower level of hero-worship. Depending upon your values, those are either positives or negatives.

That strikes me as a Texas A&M fan trying to troll Texas fans.  I wouldn't put much stock in it.  Nor would I put much stock in the fact that his timeline is filled with Texas fans.  There's only one person whose tweets matter on this one.

Someone intimates Bragg is making a decision on many things beyond football, and a Texas fan thinks if the Texas offense improves, he'd change his mind?  Seriously?

Darrin Bragg, Branson Bragg's father just followed a bunch of Stanford stuff. Perhaps a sign of what is to come?
