On that question, what once was a long list is down to just a few who haven't said yet. Isn't that the case?

Big news, given the lack of proven ILB contributors.
Bailey McElwain -

Looks like he'll be deferring enrollment and going to prep school this coming year, per his coach's comments in this link:

Really hope he ends up joining us in 2017. Seems like a great kid who is all-in on Stanford.

Those people don't look happy. Looks to me like, "son, you need to do this, this and this and we'll look again next year." I had a frat brother, since extremely succ ssful, who got that talk, went to Menlo School, then accepted. Just depends on how badly you want it.
EDITED TO ADD: well, now I have watched the clip. I believe we will welcome this young man on campus one day. My heart went out to his mother when she struggled mightily to keep from reaching out to comfort her son. He is blessed.

I'm hoping that whatever he was doing, it didn't involve being a full time college student anywhere.

To any of the admissions gurus on this board, any insight as to how this works? Do we admit kids conditionally,
i.e., "you're in for 2017 as long as you go to prep school and have a certain level of success," or is it more like a "we like you a lot, and it looks good for you next year, but we just need you to show us a little more" situation? Or even more like what Ferrari noted, where there aren't even hints of promises for the future? Aside from Jordan Fox last year, I don't recall a similar situation in recent years, but perhaps others here can recall additional stories of students/student-athletes who were basically placed on hold for a year before they could enroll.Â

Yes! And, he can do anything. The only thing I didn't see him do in his highlight reel is throw a pass. What an athlete. Will he play safety at the Farm? He could also play WR IMO.

Check out Shaw's quote at the end of the article. It related to McElwain, but may also refer to another as of yet unsigned player.

Hmmhhh ..... SI/Scout is showing us as 3rd in the Pac 12 behind UCLA and USC. Am I misreading this somehow? Or was there a late surge by the two LA schools?

Something that I've wondered about. Why do such a high fraction of football recruits express their commitment to religion so strongly? Being in Seattle I'm sure I also have a skewed view of society, but as the parent both high school and college-aged kids, it would be anathema for their peers to express that level of religiosity in this community. Church attendance is not zero, but even those who attend are typically quiet about it.

I've wondered that too and assumed it's mostly demographics. I bet Stanford's football team is far, far more religious than the university at a whole.
