Per Shaw mills out. It’s all in West

RE: 2019 Stanford Football Personnel - Phogge - 10-16-2019

Mills is gifted. Could be a star. But made of glass.

I hope West plays well and shows durability and wins the job. Got to recruit a QB every year. If they transfer so be it.

Stanford/UW Walk-On Union Watch - Langdude - 10-16-2019

Walk-On Union Watch. Four non-scholarship players got PT against the Huskies. In addition...

RE: 2019 Stanford Football Personnel - CompSci87 - 10-17-2019

Is Keck hurt? He has played some on defense in previous games, not just special teams.

Yep, if Mills could stay healthy he would be Stanford's next great QB. However, he can't.
From what I have seen of West so far, I have some doubts. Hopefully he will start proving me wrong tonight.

  • S Spencer Jorgensen, fr. He played in his fourth game on ST, and did not record a tackle.
  • P Alex Gracey, so. He again served as the holder for field goals and extra points. He has played in every game this season.
  • OLB Caleb Phillips, jr. He has played in all six games this year on ST. He did not record a tackle.
  • OLB Anthony Trinh, sr. He did not record a tackle in his fifth appearance of the season.
In addition...
  • S Brock Jones, a freshman former walk-on, played in his fifth game, I think on ST only. He did not record a tackle.
  • P Ryan Sanborn, a freshman former walk-on, continues to serve as the team's punter.
  • WR Brycen Tremayne, a sophomore former walk-on, played in his sixth game. He did not have a reception.
  • S J.J. Parson, a junior former walk-on, played in his fourth game. He did not have a tackle.
  • S Noah Williams, a senior former walk-on, played in his fourth game. He did not record a tackle.
  • ILB Ryan Beecher, a fifth-year former walk-on, played, but did not record a tackle. He has played in all six games this season.
  • No Thunder Justice Keck appearance.

Will Beecher start for Robinson?

There seems to be literally no other alternative unless they decide to play Sinclair, one of the injured sophs gets healthy very quickly, or Jake Lynch got really really good during the bye. But I suspect Beecher. I'm guessing Sinclair will get some PT.

Two new guys to add to the roster...

Quote:[*]In response to our thin offensive line numbers, we have added junior Jake Koffman to the roster, who previously threw discus for the Stanford Track & Field team. A 6’2” 252-pound athlete from Maine, Jake is suitemates on campus with Tucker Fisk, Foster Sarell, Drew Dalman and Colby Parkinson. At the intersection of our need and Jake’s piqued interest, a new football career has been born. A track, soccer and basketball athlete in high school, Jake is now wearing #54 for Stanford.

[*]Following the season-ending injury to senior kicker Jet Toner last week, we have added freshman Alexander Thorpe to the roster. The New York native camped at Stanford in high school and came recommended by Rodney Gilmore. We planned for Alexander to join the team in January to begin his development as a punter in the coming offseason. Suddenly down two kickers, we watched Alexander’s high school kicking film this past weekend, called him Sunday, and had him cleared to join the team for his first practice on Monday. The son of Stanford men’s soccer alumnus Allen Thorpe will wear #39.

Aha, the brilliant strategy of carrying less than 85 full scholies finally pays off.  Now let's raid the technie part of campus to find some folks with superpowers -- an invisible WR would be nice, as well as a RB who can fly, and maybe a DL who can turn his body into stone at the right moment.  This is Stanford, we know they're out there.

[*]I think we have started several of these recently. Problem is, the QB can't find them either.

We are down to a lineman that has never played organized football.  Crazy times.  He is a Stanford student, so you would assume that he is smart and can learn quickly, but playing offensive line is much more than just being big and strong.

I am assuming that he will start out as primarily a practice player/scout team guy, whose main job will be to keep our few OL guys from getting injured or worn out filling that role. It he shows any promise, then he might get to stick around and actually play next year. For starters, (hard though it is to say this), he isn't really big enough at 252 to play OL.

RE: 2019 Stanford Football Personnel - SamuelMcF - 10-23-2019

Major bummer that high profile walk-on OLs Matthew Gutwald and Nicholas Sligh both quit the team. Bet they had no clue the amount of PT they'd be in contention for right now.

Also major bummer that RS Fr walk-on Grant Pease is also out for the season. He was very promising (gained over 20lbs in the offseason) and held his own in the spring game.

Interesting that the announcement says "Suddenly down 2 kickers"...who is the other one? Is Collin Riccitelli hurt too? Sanborn kicked and punted last week, but I was under the impression this was because he had already jumped Riccitelli as the #2 kicker.

I would guess he is injured or otherwise not able to play given he does not appear on the depth chart (we only list Sanborn as PK and KOS, we do at least have a back-up punter listed (Alex Gracey))

Thanks for the heads-up, BC. Now added, with numbers adjusted.

I put Thorpe as a true freshman walk-on, of course. I put Koffman as a walk-on in their second year of eligibility, which is where most juniors are.

M*A*S*H Unit. The following players did not appear against the Bruins due to injury. Other notes...

RE: 2019 Stanford Football Personnel - BostonCard - 10-23-2019

As an academic junior he will have three years of eligibility left including this one.

RE: 2019 Stanford Football Personnel - 82lsju - 10-24-2019

Quote:For the foreseeable future, true freshman Ryan Sanborn will handle punting and kicking chores. He performed admirably in both areas after Toner was injured.

To add depth, freshman Alexander Thorpe joined the team this week and will wear No. 39. His father, Allen, played soccer at Stanford.

Additionally, freshman wide receiver Diego Preciado has been kicking in practice. He kicked and punted during his sophomore season at Classical Academy in Escondido, Calif.

Quote: junior defensive end Dylan Boles is now practicing with the offensive line to provide added depth. Additionally, junior tight end Tucker Fisk is taking reps with the group.
...
To add more depth, junior Jake Koffman joined the team this week. He threw the discus for the track and field team the last two years and was a team captain. He will wear No. 54.

Frosh Force. Thirteen true freshmen played against the Bruins. Of these 13, one crossed the threshold of officially using a year of eligibility, bringing the season total to 10.

RE: 2019 Stanford Football Personnel - martyup - 10-25-2019

This must be a record number of burnt shirts under the Shaw era.  Perhaps all-time?
