I hit my first career home run, a game-winning, three-run home run off of seven-time All Star Billy Pierce -- all while pinch-hitting for Roger Maris. In my career, I was the only player who pinch hit for Ted Williams. The next year, I also pinch-hit for Carl Yastrzemski.

"I" also played for the 49ers, where as a halfback I caught 12 passes, four for touchdowns!
"I" am Caroll Hardy. The story of the pinch hit for Williams is interesting. Williams fouled a ball of his foot so Hardy came in to finish the at bat, and promptly hit into a double play.

He was in the same backfield with NFL HoFamers Tittle, McIlhenny and Joe "the Jet" Perry. He was also the Hula Bowl MVP, and he was the Director of Player Personnel for the Broncos for twenty years and built their "Orange Crush" defense.

I don't think that kind of humor or those stories could survive today. Tis a shame. As an aside, one of my favorite books that I own, is a paper back, "How to Play Better Baseball" by Denny McLain and Pete Rose.

What former switch-hitting Giant is the only MLB player to hit grand slam home runs in the same game from different sides of the plate? Hint: he won the batting title that year.

Hardy died a year or two ago, and the story of how he pinch hit for Williams featured prominently in his obituaries.

The Hardy for Williams is one of my all time favorite trivia questions
Hardy was more of a flanker the term those days for the 49ers

Bill Madlock was a Giant and won several batting titles, but I don't remember him being a switch hitter, nor hitting two grand slams in a game.
Fernando Tatis Sr. hit two grand slams in one game, but I don't remember him winning a batting title, nor playing for the Giants, nor being a switch hitter.
Tony Cloninger hit two grand slams in a game, but he was a pitcher so he wouldn't have won a batting title, and I don't think he ever played for the Giants.
In other words, I've got no idea.

I was at the game At Candlestick when Cloninger hit the two grand slams
Chili Davis is the only switch hitter o can think of Ah Ken Henderson
