my guess, FWLIW... if admit, they will commit

IF ADMIT, THEY WILL COMMIT!

That can be our slogan the next 2 weeks.

Akin to the use of "University of Stanford"

#26 in ESPN 300 is McCullough.

Re: Class of 2016 - yvonne - 01-20-2016

That's not McCulloch pictured. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/195442/jeffrey-mcculloch

In fact, I don't think that's a Stanford recruit (unless stealth).

Re: Class of 2016 - oman - 01-20-2016

It's a Texas commit.  But most of us Texas fans are pretty thin-skinned and paranoid these days....

Fun recruiting fact just to poke Kal in the eye - Redrum - 01-20-2016

Brennan Scarlett, the Kal player who had to transfer to Stanford to get to play in the New Year's Rose Bowl game, has played his last collegiate football game.  Could have just focused on the future away from football but reportedly spent time with Stanford recruits over Big Visit weekend.  I guess he really likes being a student at Stanford and is willing to share that great academic and football experience with potential future players.

Not in my book. Stanford was referred to as the Cardinals when I started as a freshman in 1980. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm pretty sure that the plural had been in use for several years before I arrived, and it didn't change to the non-count form until my sophomore or junior year.

Why is Cards acceptable but Cardinals not?  Seems to me the team is the Cardinal and the players are Cardinals.

Seems to me the very power in the singular is felt when one refers to the players as "The Cardinal".

Re: Class of 2016 - Hank 91 - 01-20-2016

People figure it out when they get on campus. It seems like recruits are always making mistakes on Twitter and during their Signing Day announcements. We're all rightly focused on our school and our team, but these seventeen- and eighteen-year-old kids are all thinking of dozens of schools. How should they be expected to remember if it's Stanford University of the University of Stanford? Why should they remember that it's the Cardinal and not the more expected Cardinals? After all, didn't Harbaugh himself make a mistake like this in his introductory press conference? I seem to remember that he said "University of Stanford," but I could be wrong.

A rose is still a rose, after all...

I don't think Cards is acceptable. And I have to disagree on the players being Cardinals, but that's the problem with non-plural mascots, isn't it?  Hard to assign a singular name.  The easy workaround, of course, is to avoid it altogether and focus on the school rather than the mascot.  Thus, "Go Stanford" and "Go Card" are acceptable when cheering.  And if we're referring to one of the player, the same principle (of looking to the school rather than the mascot) applies.  For example, Christian McCaffrey is not "a" Cardinal, but he is a Stanford running back, Cardinal football player, and Stanford man.

Re: Class of 2016 - OutsiderFan - 01-20-2016

Rivals story on Ulloa kind of infers that Stanford may have stopped recruiting him.  I don't buy this because David Shaw has said that if you have a Stanford offer and you are admitted, you will be in.  Shaw says they don't recruit guys then stop contacting them if better prospects come available, like other schools do.

In any case, Oregon might be slow playing him because they have better prospects, and if that continues, Arizona is a likely landing spot for Ulloa.

So, if conditions a) having an offer and b) being admitted are true, then c) player is in is true. However, if both a and b are not true, can not be true.
