Don't worry, I didn't say anything. I did watch him play on Friday night, though, and he's legit -- big, smooth, physical. It's like everyone else on the field is running as fast as they can, and he's just out there comfortably loping. This Poly team is kind of ridiculous. Quarterback Matt Corral, who thankfully decommitted from USC and chose Florida recently, is the best high school quarterback I've ever seen. He threw for over 400 yards and made at least five eye-popping plays. I'm glad he'll be on the other side of the country in college.

Never has a finalist list looked better for Stanford at a position of critical need. Of course, 247 has him 73% ND 27% Stanford out of 11 predictions.
Booker has offers from Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State, and Michigan to name a few. This is as must get a recruit in the 2018 class as there is, IMO. It will be crushing to lose him to the University of South Bend.

The fact that three out of his five finalists are Ivy League schools bodes well for Stanford, I believe.

Hamilton and Maddox went to the same high school (in Baltimore) as Booker. I have to figure their experience and insights would be important to him. Hopefully they feel good about their decision, have a relationship with Booker and can share their thoughts. And I dont know the rules but some of the Ravens coaches have Stanford connections (eg, Greg Roman, Harbaugh) so maybe they could help educate him on what Stanford has to offer.

Having gone to both an Ivy and to Stanford from Baltimore I found them very different. Good education in both places but the type of fellow student and other available activities was very different, not to mention the weather/environment, and of course the big time athletics. I think there this is plenty to educate an 18 year old about, but maybe I'm just old and kids today understand these things already. But in my mind, if they do there would be no reason to consider these other schools unless geographic proximity was the key.

I think the Ravens coaches have more connections to Michigan (one of the other rivals) than to Stanford.

Because it is so important...
Fox and Booker are absolute MUST get recruits for Stanford. But they better get at least three DL in this class total, or the DL issues are going to continue to plague the program for years.

the numbers at DL are fine they are just young and not ready to contribute yet

Attrition is a bitch. Unless you account for it you are at risk for the 2017 situation every year. We have no idea how especially Schaffer and Peek will contribute, and nothing rules out Swann or Williams retirements either. And, most of these guys aren't big enough, DWP possible exception.Â
Moreover, Shaw says it is a Junior and Senior game. Well, that means you probably need three DL per class to every year be in position to field primarily Juniors and Seniors. Stanford could have as few as just one upper class DL in 2018 if Phillips doesn't return. Don't want to go through this again.
2017 6-7 can play, but really only three playing much = not much depth
Senior: Cotton
Junior: Phillips
Soph: Jackson
Frosh: Williams, Swann, Schaffer, Peek?
RS - DWP, Johnson
2018 6-8 to play, but only Phillips proven difference maker
Senior: Phillips (assuming he returns)

3 DL in this class would be a luxury far from a necessity. The priorities are 4+ DBs(already have 2) and 2 ILBs(already have 1) and a FB

Given that it's almost October and Stanford has only 7 commits, none who were the top player offered at his position, I've been wondering if it's time to be more concerned than usual about the 2018 recruiting class. So I checked out the small-in-number class of 2013, and found via 247 that it had only 5 commits by October 1, 2012:
Ryan Burns QB
Francis Owusu WR
Eric Cotton TE
Peter Kalambayi ILB
Sean Barton ATH
That class was ranked 11th in the conference, and I assumed that was because of the lack of commits. In fact, the class was lumped in a second tier with UW and UO, well behind SC and UCLA.
So, for those who are more accomplished tea-leaf readers than I, is it time to be more concerned than usual?

Keep in mind, on the UCLA 2-deep, there were just 6 5th yr Seniors and only 7 guys in their final year of eligibility. Even if a couple guys were to declare early and a few retirements, Stanford loses no more than probably 12 guys off the 2017 scholarship roster. So the class is going to be tiny, probably no more than 12-13 I would guess. Given there are 7 commits, more than half the class is full now.
The issue for this class isn't numbers per se, as much as what positions get addressed, namely DL and LB.
It does look like the 2019 class is shaping up to be a much bigger haul in terms of quantity and quality, but that doesn't mean the 2018 class won't have some very key pieces.Â

Well then, if it is 17-18, and two are returning from missions to provide 9 commits, then the class is still at least 50% done, assuming no admissions casualties.
Bob, are you anticipating attrition from some scholarship players who won't use all their eligibility and aren't legit draft prospects?
Might Bo Peek be one of them? Casey Tucker?
