RE: Class of 2023 - murky - 03-04-2022

FWIW, Patu looked pretty good from what little we saw.

RE: Class of 2023 - BostonCard - 03-04-2022

I suppose it depends what they brought him in for.  If they thought he was coming for a single grad transfer year and was going to be behind Mills and McKee and possibly West, then it was reasonable to think of him as the wildcat/option QB.  On the other hand, if they knew he was going to be here a second year, then they should have done more to groom him as a backup QB.  Then again, at the start of the year, they legitimately believed that West was a viable D1 QB.  But knowing what we know now, they should have prepared for him to be the backup QB and to have to start a game.

He was obviously an athlete so they should have moved him to safety where the “talent” at the position was not D1 caliber. Instead he rode the pine.

It also may have had a bit to do with what he wanted to do. Moving him to safety was probably not on his list of goals. I suspect that would have be "No and hell no".
He undoubtedly knew he didn't have an ideal skill set for Stanford's "normal" offense as a QB. In order to play it well, he was going to require lots of practice on his own, far more than the NCAA would allow Stanford to mandate or even supervise. He isn't going to the NFL. Why do that? He could play the wildcat and go to Stanford like a "normal" grad student or he could have spent every waking moment trying to become a drop-back passer. I think the choice was obvious.

RE: Class of 2023 - Phogge - 03-05-2022

Given the choice of sitting on your ass or playing I don't think many kids would opt to hug the bench. I wouldn't want that kind of player on my team.

Looks like a Viking warrior.

This is a solid list of players; just need to convert as many as possible.  The early lists of junior day visitors provides as much a dose of optimism as we'll get all cycle.  Lots of good players here, but I'll give a shout to Ahmari Borden, who plays a position of need, has high top-end speed, reports a 4.0 GPA, and has an FSU offer.

No QB recruits in that group.

RE: Class of 2023 - Phogge - 03-10-2022

They might want to invite all the RB's that they can.

No QB recruits in that group.

Dylan Lonergan visited in January for the first Junior Day.

Also, no DT’s.

For the 7 millionth time...

"DT" means nothing when we play 2 DL at a time. ESPECIALLY now in a 4-3.

(You are correct though that no DL visited.)

Meanwhile, the OL offers just keep coming.

RE: Class of 2023 - Phogge - 03-10-2022

Hey CAPS. Maybe he’s DOC.

RE: Class of 2023 - BostonCard - 03-10-2022

Fine, whatever you call them, we need interior defensive linemen. We don’t have any, and we evidently are not recruiting them.

We have offered 6, and there are at least 3 still very much in play for 2 spots.

In the 2021-22 cohorts we have 5.

(This of course does not change the obvious fact that we have zero seniors and just one junior at the position, and may very well have the worst interior line in America this coming season.)

Yes, but two EDGE guys visited.

RE: Class of 2023 - BostonCard - 03-11-2022

Unless they can bull up to play inside, then we could have 50 EDGE guys visit and it wouldn’t help us at all to shore up the trenches and provide a modicum of resistance to teams trying to run.

RE: Class of 2023 - Phogge - 03-11-2022

Yeah if only DT's still existed in the Stanford universe. Not sure what we should call them now BC. But I remember a few.

Paul Wiggen
Greg Sampson
Laz
Jody Graves
Larry Butler
Jack Moller

Could use guys like that.
