In a December Rivals interview about receiving a Michigan offer, it says Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford and Vanderbilt have also offered Murphy.

Luke Wattenberg from JSerra near San Diego could be an option at OL too. He listed academics first in factors for selecting a college, but doesn't show an offer from Stanford and the interview I saw did not indicate he was hearing from Stanford's coaches. I would not mention him due to the apparent lack of mutual interest, but that Barton Simmons predicted Stanford, so that carries some weight.

On closer review, it's football first, but academics/campus/feel and fit matter to him, too.Â
I continue to prefer our chances to SC's, and think that he respects and likes Michigan but would never travel that far when a better program and equally good school are nearby (USC), and an excellent program with a great S&C guy and clearly superior academics are much closer, too. Plus he has little acquaintance with the Michigan coaches other than Harbs, and must realize Harbs's QB/WR/and OC didn't take the job to hold Harbaugh's clipboard--and that the new guy might be one year and out, given that he signed only a one year contract and probably wants a head coach job in college or another OC position back in the NFL.

Publius posted this a couple of weeks ago, but I decide to take a gander at 24/7 and see how many 2016 offers Stanford and the other Pac-12 schools have made thus far, along with a couple of other schools for the heck of it.

The commentary on this guy being a better fit for WR at Stanford is interesting and a bit odd since he's the same size Zach Ertz and Coby Fleener were as HS seniors. We'll see if Bo's speculation pans out.

Well, we split Ertz and Fleener out a ton as wideouts so the distinction may be somewhat academic.

Kaden Smith appears to have more body and frame to work with than Coby.Â
He's got a classic tight end frame, and very good development at his age. Put another way, it appears he can block like Levine and catch like Zach, but looks more fluid running routes--although Zach became a very good route runner. At this stage, Smith appears to be in a higher class than those guys were at the same stage.Â
Schultz and Smith could be a remarkable one-two at TE. Schultz looked amazing just shagging one-handers on the sideline at the Utah game.Â

Let's not forget Hooper. He wasn't a 5-star recruit, but he's a heck of a good TE. Hooper, Schultz, and Smith could rival the Fleener, Ertz, and Toilolo combination.Â
If Smith seems likely to come to Stanford, I could see moving Tabaoda to DE to make sure he sees enough of the field. He's too talented to be buried on a TE depth chart like that.

He did visit Michigan. Was supposed to again but doesn't sound like he will.

The article said he was there last summer and was very impressed. His interest waned with the coaching turmoil but now Harbaugh has rekindled it. I think he does come to Stanford, but it's a horse race.
