Re: Class of 2014 - Local article on IBS - Bruce Wang - 06-21-2013

Some nice tidbits from a local paper about Brandt-Sims.  Admission doesn't sound like a concern at all in his case.

Did any of the rest of you have a beard when you were 17? (Maybe that's why I never played football - although whether that's a cause or an effect I'm not sure.)

Yup, grew a beard for a high school production of Much Ado About Nothing.

In retrospect, not really sure why I grew the beard.

I think I could grow one about that quality when I was 17, although I shaved out of habit. After graduation I did grow one though, and have kept it mostly since. Shaving sucks.

I was throwing down a decent Mexican starter mustache when I got to the Farm.

Re: Class of 2014 - washingtonismoney - 06-23-2013

By the way, with the latest commit -- according to 247's real-time rankings, we're now 2nd in the conference (3rd when you account for the Irish.) 47th in the country, so we still have a lot of room to grow (hopefully.)

Re: Class of 2014 - yvonne - 06-24-2013

Harrison Phillips? He'll go to Nebraska if he gets an offer there.

What's interesting is $C (which in my recollection is usually fast out the gates on recruiting rankings) is all the way down at 53.

Re: Class of 2014 - FarmBoy - 06-24-2013

If that data is accurate, it's pretty amazing the drop off from the top 3. This would be incredible recruiting material if it's verifiable. Even if it's directionally accurate. Someone should show Jabrill Peppers the difference between African American football players at Stanford ($1.18M) and UofM ($0.4M).

I'm not sure what the study means by "Return on Investment" which is usually calculated as a %. This looks more like an "NPV" (Net Present Value) or perhaps just gross salary over 30 years. It would be hard to calculate an ROI, since most of the players on the team are on full scholarship and therefore have close to $0 "investment" in their degrees (though I'm sure there's some out of pocket expenses.)

I remember a couple of years ago reading that Shaw shared with recruits the annual salary stats for Stanford vs. average D1 footballers or perhaps against specific schools, I can't remember which. Perhaps he will start using this.

I don't think either part of your statement is a foregone conclusion.

Re: Class of 2014 - yvonne - 06-24-2013

Nothing is ever a foregone conclusion, but familiarity with coaches is often the biggest factor in where a player lands. He's gone on record saying he's most comfortable with the Nebraska coaches, largely because they are so close.

Re: Class of 2014 - washingtonismoney - 06-24-2013

Philips was just offered by UCLA, by the way. His top three offers -- us, UCLA, K-state -- are a pretty darn solid trio.

Re: Class of 2014 - Cardinal96 - 06-25-2013

I love what I am hearing about this new recruit, Brandt-Sims.  A 10.48 100 meter dash for a high school student is insance.

Phillips received his Nebraksa offer yesterday. http://nebraska.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1519244
Quote:"It's almost just too surreal, I can't believe this just happened," Phillips said. "A year ago, two years ago, five years ago I don't think you could have asked anybody if I would be on the phone with Bo Pelini getting a full ride offer to play at Nebraska. I'm just amazed to have this opportunity to have so many options.

"Not to take anything away from all of the other schools that have offered me too. They are all good schools. It's just a dream come true to be in this situation and I love the place that I have right now with these options. Now I just have a lot to think about and sort through before I make a decision.

Let's put that down as a definite maybe  ???

Re: Class of 2014 - fullmetal - 06-25-2013

Someone tell Phillips that Bo Pelini has had and will continue to have more than his fair share of losses...I haven't seen anything that screams a return to prominence for Nebraska.
