My top 3 would be Mullen, Harvey and Demaria. Chatter is that Demaria is a quiet commit for Stanford. Likely Mullen as well. We just need Jordyn to convince her sister to commit to Stanford.
It will be interesting to see what happens if Kevin lands Parks. The battle for starting setter between Yu and Parks will be a good one.

Back to 2024 commits Yu is ranked 8 and Andrew 13 now new Prep Volleyball rankings
Btw the only top 50 not committed is Higgins sister of our former WR

Will WVB ever reach this level at Stanford? Nebraska is playing a match in their football stadium on Wednesday August 30. It was sold out within 48 hours. The Chancellor has declared it Volleyball Day and cancelled all classes.

It would be good if Mullen has verbally committed. WVB policy has been in the past to not allow a recruit to announce a verbal agreement until a likely letter is issued by admissions. I'd like Hambly to change that. If a player wants to make the agreement public she should be allowed to do so. Everyone understands it's contingent on being admitted to the university. If nothing else, being in the public domain may persuade other coaches to not try poaching the player.
I agree there could be a real battle between Yu and Parks for starting setter. Yu ranked in prepvolleyball.com's top 10 is impressive.

Yu is a 2024 who publically committed in January. I had forgotten that also but thats way before she could have been accepted. Lots of questions to ask at the BBQ

Do we only have 2 commits for 2024? I know a lot of our top hopefuls chose beach over indoor.

Well not exactly.

I should hope that day never arrives. The idea of Stanford cancelling all classes across its entire campus for a volleyball game (or *any* non-emergency) is, well, risible. But at least the University of Nebraska is saying the quiet part out loud in terms of what their campus prioritizes...

Yes, I completely agree. I made that statement in jest. I've often commented I would rather have all sports at Stanford be turned into club sports rather than get to the day where NIL rules college athletics or athletes become paid employees.

In general some elite athletes have been picking beach over indoor. Avery Jackson (2024, OH) out of Dallas Texas chose Stanford Beach. At one point she was ranked by prepdig.com nationally #1 indoor player. Also selected USA Volleyball Junior Female Athlete of the Year. I'm not aware Hambly was recruiting her.

Bailey Higgins (2024, 6'0" OPP) out of Clearwater, Florida. She attends Berkeley Prep HS which I believe was the school Jordan Burgess went to. BobK, any chance Higgins comes to the Farm without a athletic scholarship offer?

Didn’t we both see a Higgins committed some where and if now not committed I think it’s very possible she will come to Stanford. I’m thinking walk on

I believe fall camp for the Stanford team starts Monday August 7?

VB practice starts either the 7th or 8th hard to tell from the tweet.
Stanford added their 4th commit Libero/ DS Makyssa Cawa from Mater Dei HS. She is ranked 22 in CA

Thanks Bob for the update. Definitely appreciate the need for libero/DS and #22 sounds pretty good. I know we have Andrews and Yu. Who is the 3rd commit?
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball -

Duncan MBer from Texas
My guess Yu and Andrew are the scholarship players

I saw Malyssa Cawa at a club tournament and thought she would be a good addition to Stanford's team not knowing at the time Hambly was recruiting her. If ranked #22 in Cali then she is probably ranked top 3 libero/DS in Cali.
Her club and HS coach is a Stanford fan complimentary about Stanford to his players.

U21 USA team was chosen today. Kaci Demaria and Abigail Mullen are on the 12 person roster. 16 year old Demaria and Mullen against 20 year players will be a challenge.
“This young group of U.S. players will have the opportunity to accelerate the growth of their game by competing against professional athletes and national team members from around the world,” Hogan said. “We will embrace and lean into this challenge.”

FIVB U19 Championship is currently being played. Abigail Mullen is on the team playing OPP. In the portions I've watched Mullen looked good, particularly her serving. Thus far USA has beaten Korea and Japan. Next match is against Mexico at 6:00 am PT Thursday. Youtube free live streaming; picture quality very good.

Honest question .... Not so long ago many top level indoor players were also top level beach players. Kerri Walsh is a notable example. Karch Kiraly is another.
Why can't a so inclined star college player play both variants? Are they really mutually exclusive?
RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball -
BobK - 08-02-2023
We currently have two women who play both
So there’s that. However indoor is full scholarship beach is partial. So if a beach player plays indoor that’s a automatic indoor scholarship and one may not be available

Here's a link to the disproportionate scholarships per sport. Love that equestrian has nearly 2x the available scholies than water polo does.
