STanford - Arizona State live thread - Gauss - 10-18-2014

On the topic "has the offense started clicking" we have a preliminary answer: "perhaps not".

-2 yards and 1 penalty in the first two drives, ugh.

Hopefully it'll perk up. Go Cardinal!

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - washingtonismoney - 10-18-2014

Somehow "picking up the blitz" is still a weakness, so we should expect to be blitzed to oblivion against the rest of the schedule.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - washingtonismoney - 10-18-2014

Second time we've run that stick-draw, so glad that finally worked.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - Viking_Guy - 10-18-2014

Also another instance where Hogan's motion is problematic - he dropped the ball so low on his backswing (and I think that's the right term) - a foot behind him and well below his shoulders - that it put it right into the path of the blitzer that had been pushed deep by Wright.

Yuck thus far.

Hey, they got two first downs on one drive.  What more do you want?

Stanford - Arizona State live thread - Mick - 10-18-2014

Man, this is nauseating.  Nothing doing on offense.  Can't pass.  Can barely run.  At least the punter looks like he's doing well.

First ASU drive concerned me a bit, none of the rest since have concerned me much.  Should be a low scoring game.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - washingtonismoney - 10-18-2014

This game is going to get ugly -- and I mean on the scoreboard.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - Mick - 10-18-2014

DJ Foster makes alex carter miss.  Just a spin and Ole.

Aaaaaaand Ellis Jefferson, frosh WR makes a 20 yard recept.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - washingtonismoney - 10-18-2014

Ronnie Harris is really matched up with Strong? Who thought up that idea?

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - stupac2 - 10-18-2014

Sure not feeling as good about this as I was before the game.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - BostonCard - 10-18-2014

Well, that sucked.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - DC - 10-18-2014

Is it time yet to go to a four-down offense to pick up a couple first downs?  Should we do it now, or should we wait until the fourth quarter?

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - OutsiderFan - 10-18-2014

This game is like an advertisement for Offensive Coordinators to send their resumes into Stanford.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - BostonCard - 10-18-2014

Hogan can do ok when he has time to throw.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - washingtonismoney - 10-18-2014

Hogan should be checking out of some of these plays -- like, some of them just look obviously doomed based on pre-snap alignments.

brilliant announcing - Mick - 10-18-2014

After two consecutive tight end catches, the announcers feel that Stanford's best bet is to go to their tight ends.

Another inc. to Montgomery.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - washingtonismoney - 10-18-2014

This offensive line is awful.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - Viking_Guy - 10-18-2014

That wasn't the line - that was both Skov and Hogan failing to account for a guy rather obviously lined up to blitz from the right side.

Is it just me, or does Hogan also almost always start his "one route progression" to the left?  Because he's oblivious to right side pressure a lot of the time.

Re: STanford - Arizona State live thread - BostonCard - 10-18-2014

Yeah, that one wasn't on the offensive line; it was completely on Patrick Skov.
