Yep, they used Tara's defensive strategy. Hit an incredible 3-point percentage.

Then survived the 2nd half where the refs did everything they could to hand the game to Baylor.  Louisville earned a brobdingnagian win.

The night we played Michigan, we would have beaten Baylor, too.  The night we did beat Baylor we were 7/14 on three point shots.  Perimeter shooting is the great equalizer against height.

Re: OT: Baylor loses! - Griffins78 - 03-31-2013

I'm so glad that Baylor lost. Griner is such a dirty player. I hope she gets taught some lessons in the WNBA.

Have watched her several times and she clearly is a dirty player and if she continues will hurt someone. Most know about her going off and slugging an opponent. In the UConn game earlier this year she reached out and grabbed Stephanie Dolson's arm as Dolson was taking off down court after a UConn defensive rebound or steal and yanked causing Dolson to fall and bounce her head off the floor.

I just watched Griner go up to block a Louisville shot on a drive, but the Loiusville player faked the shot getting Griner in the air. Faked out and while in the air, Griner sticks her leg out and tries to kick the back leg of the Loiusville player and then as she is falling to the ground, Griner grabs the Louisville player's arm and tries to pull her down.

Not according to Kim Mulkey:

I agree with soem, though.  And how she didn't pick up a T for on the court and attempting to rip off her jacket [especially after the Louisville coach had been T'd up about 60 seconds earlier] is beyond me.

Oh..., one of the refs??  Our very own Missy Barlow!

Hey, Kim...welcome to our world!  ;D

yup. I agree. Brooklyn Pope stood in the key for 6-7 seconds before they passed it to her and she made basket, then on the defensive end Pope clearly took a step and moved her body into the Louisville player after Smith left the ground and was in the air. It was a 4 (maybe 6) point turnaround and Smith fouled out of the game. And there were others...

Yes, I saw that interview too and laughed so hard. The one-sided calls for Baylor in the 2nd half were incredible. Baylor couldn't score, so the refs put them on the foul line on just about every trip down the court. By contrast, the Louisville players were making shots. Sims' steals look nice, but she is knocking players off the ball first with her body when reaching in; she does it with force and speed, but its still a contact foul that rarely gets called on her.
Then the refs fouled out Louisville's key player Schimmel plus two more players.

I was somewhat shocked when the refs called the final foul where Griner and another player hammered Reid in the last 3 seconds. (It was clearly the right call, just not for Baylor for a change). I was pleased to see Reid hit the 2 free throws to win the game. Louisville deserved and earned it, playing 5 against 8 for key stretches of the game.

You can understand the emotions of that moment, but Mulkey should be ashamed for harping on the refs when they gave her team so much -- the lead and a chance to win.

From AP's game recap: "Griner later tweeted: 'I want to say I'm sorry to the Baylor Nation for letting everyone down and everyone else that look up to me! I was a disappointed tonight!' "

Since Ms. Griner is a true college senior, I wonder if she flunked Baylor's remedial English course(s)?

I wouldn't bet a lot of money on the Big 12 schools emphasizing academic rigor in their basketball programs' academic advising.  Having said that, I just read a Jordan Watkins tweet with a nice grammatical misstep.

Pretty much everyone has to look up to Griner, especially when standing next to her.  Look out for her hands and elbows when doing so.

Fair enough.  Out of curiosity, has Stanford ever employed any variant of the hack-a-Griner defense?  Objectively speaking, of course...
