Find yourself just before kickoff....

I found myself! Yikes, I do not look good.

Oops, hadn't gotten to my seat yet!

Mr. and Mrs. CowboyIndian are in the south end zone...just 4 rows below the Rock Star Energy sign. I'm in a black ballcap leaning forward, nervous before kickoff. Mrs. CI is to my right, looking bemused and tolerant as ever.

Amazing. We were right below tunnel 3.Â

I noticed something weird about this picture. The scoreboard shows it's right before kickoff. If you look on the field, the Stanford players are lining up for an extra point or field goal. Sure enough you see Williamson getting ready to kick. You can also find Williamson on the sideline. Are there two Williamson's? The clutch kicker from the Rose Bowl and the Oregon Game? And his evil twin who missed at the Fiesta and against Notre Dame?
Of course the logical explanation is that the photo is a composite.
BTW my vote for the all time greatest find on the CARDboard (my tenture is admittedly short, so if there was something better pre-2012 please let the newbies know).

They (can't remember who) also did a composite 360 photo at South Bend. It's pretty amazing technology. I found myself in both photos, looking goofy, but at least the result was much nicer at the Rose Bowl. Maybe Stanford can do this for next year's games with Oregon and ND.

I am clearly annoyed by the sun, but otherwise looking calm. Not quite as "happy to be there" as others, but not particularly concerned either.
Good times. I love how there are several hundred "S" tags, but only a handful of "W" tags. Pretty much sums up the day.
Also, the picture is helpful because it becomes very possible to assign fan support percentages. Maybe this evening. :)

I'm there on an aisle in section 2, although can't see my family because people in front are standing to let others into the middle of the row.
Very cool.

Pretty much like I remember the distribution.
Stanford fans were in Sections 1-12 & 24-28. Covering 17 sections.
Wisconsin fans were in 13-18. Covering 6 sections.
The corporate & bowl types were in 19-23. Covering 5 sections. Those sections appeared to have a slight Wisconsin bias. Presumably more of their fans have elected to stop worrying about school support or loyalty and opt for the path that gives them better seats.
60/25/15 - Stanford/Wisconsin/Rose
Probably understates the Stanford mix a touch. Amazing! The AD should share that with any bowl that wonders if Stanford will travel. And then the AD should also save the SC player and coach events, actions, and comments during the Sun Bowl to remind those same bowls that SC is not exactly a prudent option.

Oh my God! What is the technology that enables them to do that? ??? :D

Stitch together a zillion photographs. On a much smaller scale (shot at the beginning of 4th quarter):

I wondered what the view is like from the top. I didn't have time to walk up to row 77, but am curious in case I ever go back. ;D

Your average Rose Bowl row translates almost exactly into the old Stanford Stadium viewing. I would say you can find out what row you like by going to the 2014 Stanford AT UCLA game, but hopefully Stanford will have a game there earlier in the year.

The old Stanford Stadium had a track, making seats farther away from the field. The angle of the old stadium (pitch) might have been sharper than at the Rose Bowl, however.

Right those things even out IMO. For the UCLA game, anticipating I would be back, I marched up and down the rows. I ultimately selected 53 as the best, which was very close to my ideal at Stanford Stadium. Anything below 25 was going to be terrible, much like at Stanford Stadium. And above 70 felt very high. So while not a perfect proxy, I am pretty confident that most will find the row to row translations fair. Certainly more relevant than comparing the Rose Bowl rows to the new Stanford Stadium seating.

Those of you who warned me about field level seats at the Rose Bowl were right--in fact, the very front row seats are sunk in about 8 inches lower than the field. Photographers, wandering VIPs, security personnel, etc. were blocking our views for some of the game. Still, if Stanford had scored more often in front of me, it would have been absolutely golden. I'll weight the ~row 45-53 locations a little more heavily next time, but I won't forget the feeling of being so close to the game and the players. And if I'd actually had my 55-200mm lens as many others had, I would have had much better photos...
