Positives - washingtonismoney - 01-03-2012

We know we've got a no. 1 receiver next year.

Re: Positives - 81alum - 01-03-2012

If you are looking for positives you could look at the boxscore.  For people who only care about winning--well, it will be little consolation.  But it has some remarkable highlights.  Andrew was 27/31.  Time of possession was Stanford 42 minutes to OSU 18.  We had 590 yards of offense.  We held OSU a touchdown under its average.  OSU was forced to punt 5 times--a rarity for them.  Terrence Brown had his first interception.  Stepfan Taylor had a career best 177 yards.  Ty Montgomery had 7 receptions for 120 yards--a breakout game.

Frankly, anyone looking at those stats without knowing the score would say that Stanford appeared to have played very well.  By comparison, I felt much, much worse after the Oregon loss.

Re: Positives - estephan500 - 01-03-2012

Yep, big Cardinal losses often really hit me in the gut, but on this one there is an absence of the things that make it truly burn.

We played a super game in many ways, and viewers nationwide saw us making elite drives and stops in an elite game. Nobody with a brain would come out of that thinking that we were not all that.

We didn't lose to assholes or hated nemeses.

This loss didn't prevent us from getting into a bowl or knock is out of anything.

A maxim. You can lose a big game and, some hours later, remember that in the bigger picture, life is good. But if you lose THE Big Game, it may be appropriate to go postal.

Damn proud to be a Cardinal fan. What will our final national ranking be?

Re: Positives - OutsiderFan - 01-03-2012

I think the biggest positive was missed.  Stanford held Oklahoma State to 14 yards rushing for the whole game, and AJ Tarpley continues to be a force, really minimizing the loss of Skov.

As for final rankings, LSU will finish #1 or #2.  Alabama will finish #1-4, depending on how they fare against LSU.  Oregon will finish #3 or 4 and Oklahoma State will finish #2 or #3.  Stanford is pretty much a lock for #5.

Quote: “We’re going to be back,” said a choked up defensive end Ben Gardner. “We’re going to be just fine. We’re going to be back next year with a vengeance and we’re going to be a strong program for years to come.”

Every loss hurts. However, this loss might just be what the Cardinal needs to motivate itself during the off-season. This and the success of the University of Phil Knight.

(I suggest to the Administrator of the board that we automatically change Oregon to the University of Phil Knight)
