Bloodbath Two, the sequel.
On the first hole, Stanford was in a threesome that played in the hole in a total 21-over par. Stanford contributed enormously with a triple and a quint.
So much, perhaps, for the rain softening up the course.

Ouch - if I read your post correctly, the third member of the threesome scored 13 over par?!!

Should have written "Stanford's five players were in threesomes that played. . ." So 15 players total, 21-over. Play has been stopped. Players are averaging a plus-score every three holes.

LOL thanks for the clarification. 13 over par on one hole is Tin Cup territory.

Now up to +2, and tied for first among teams that have started.

Back to Even overall, although we really need the non-Swegle players to keep it together, because he's already +6 through four holes...

Team is -1 after 11 holes. -5 as a group on 1 helped a lot. A chance for a good score if they can hold it together.

Team now at +4 through 14-17. Playing partners Arkansas and Arizona State both at +11.
Brandon Wu at -4 is tied for the individual lead.

The good news is that of teams off the course already, we are fourth.
The bad news is that scores are coming down this afternoon, and spitballing it, I'm going to guess we will end in the 15-20 range.

Play was suspended by darkness with 15 teams with holes left to play.
We are sitting in a tie for 14th, with only 4 teams ahead of us who have finished.
Northwestern at -8 is the leader.

Stanford scheduled to start on #1 at 1:20 pm central/11:20 am pacific.
All of the teams that did not complete their rounds today will re-start at 7 am tomorrow local time, play the remaining holes, then immediately start their 2nd round. Will be a long day for them.

Blood bath is over. The field is in minus numbers. Stanford needs to go lower, perhaps much lower today.

Average score yesterday was just under 4 strokes over. So far today the average is right around E. And there's a lot less dispersion than there was for the women - had Huang not hit that triple bogie on 10, we'd be in the top 8. We really need to avoid having more than one player have a bad day; we had to count two +4s yesterday (and our fifth was a +5), and that's really hard to compensate for.

scores are lower so far today. I think we had added difficulty of getting caught on course while storm came in yesterday. tough way to start NCAAs.

Not the start we wanted. We wanted a birdie on #1--it's played under par for the field so far--and we went +2.

Turn out the lights, the party is over. Wu just took a 10 on the par four tenth. Sounds like two out of bounds.

Ugh. +9 so far today. We’ve dropped 9spots to 23rd.

Stanford + 11. 17th place 2 back of 15/16

We know that Stanford is moving up at least one spot. 16th place BYU completed its 3rd round on Thursday-Friday. They shot 24 over.
Stanford actually did a good job of salvaging what could have been a disastrous round. They butchered the easier front 9. But thanks to Huang's impressive 33 on the back and Salinda's solid 35, they were only +1 on the back. Wu needs a short memory to reclaim the form he had on Friday. The team does not need to go low to make the cut. It will probably take contributions 4 of the 5 players around par. However the team does need to go under par to contend for the top 8.
The top 15 teams get to play in the morning on Sunday. Stanford will play in the afternoon when the wind may pick up and the greens are firmer and more chewed up. They start at 12 noon central with Florida and Northwestern.
