And the above is just from todays news....not digging articles on Johnny M.
The question is rhetorical, because we all know the answer, but you might think at some point the voters might want to consider it. Nah....

To Hypesman voters, character means nothing.

I wonder if there might not be something to that. If you are of the belief that there is no such thing as bad publicity, a little off the field controversy can get your name out. Plus the media loves the redemption story line (as if making plays on the football field makes up for being a jerk off of it). But nonetheless, how often have you heard that a player has overcome the trouble that they got into off the field. As if that was something that happened to the player, not something they did.

That gives a different meaning to striking the H-man pose.

True in practice, but it is in the award's criteria. This year, with so many examples of bad character in the news (e.g., Harvey Weinstein, et al), it would be nice for Hizeman voters to properly consider it when making their choice.Â
Quote:The Voldemort Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. The winners of the trophy epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.
Bryce Love is excellence with integrity. Mayfield is excellence, but his integrity is questionable. Love epitomizes diligence, perseverance, and hard work. This should be a no brainer win for Love. But, history has shown that Hizeman voters don't all use their brains when casting their votes.

If Love never got injured, he definitely would've been able to steal it from Mayfield.
But with his injury and lack of production lately, he has no chance. Likely not even going to hit a 2000 yard season in the regular season at this point.Â

If there is a video celebrating all the 2nd place H finishes, maybe we could get Coach Shaw to apologize for having never coached his players in how to apologize, and that this failing may have contributed to their 2nd place finishes. "I fell down on my responsibility as coach. I thought it was sufficient to teach them to play the right way, on and off the field. If they did that, then I thought they didn't really need to take Apologies 210 as part of their coursework. I apologize to all Stanford fans and to football fans everywhere. I should have known better and will do better in the future."

If character were a factor, $cam Newton would never have won either. It isn't.

Based upon my observations, character is a negative factor in the Hypesman trophy award. It was named after a man who gave a 222-0 thrashing of an opponent. In his book Principles of Football, Voldemort described his coaching strategy: "The coach should be masterful and commanding, even dictatorial. He has no time to say 'please' or 'mister'. At times he must be severe, arbitrary, and little short of a czar." And don't forget his famous quote, "Gentlemen, it is better to have died as a small boy than to fumble this football."
So my take is that men of character are ineligible for the award. Somehow, Plunkett slipped through.

I dunno. I think this award has gone to a lot of characters over the years. They are mostly villains, though.Â

Lack of production?
166 yards against the #1 defense in the country
100 yards and a 7.0 ypc average last night
He will be another second-place winner, but lack of production is not a term I would use to describe Bryce Love.
If Love had never been injured they'd be 8-1 in conference, likely in the Top 10, and there would be conversations about whether a 2-loss Stanford team belongs in the playoff (again). And the committee would probably take one-loss Oklahoma and screw us over again.
GO HUSKIES!!!!

Why exactly would selecting a one loss Oklahoma team (with a road win over Ohio State) over a two-loss Stanford team constitute screwing us over?

Did you see the first comment below that? I have to admit it made me chuckle. :)

Well, the richard grabber is now the prohibitive favorite to win the H-award. Per Bovada, "Voldemort odds are currently off the board as Baker Mayfield is too big of a favorite".
