Sarao flipped to USC.
On the Bootleg one of the recruitniks noted that USC\'s coaches got a whole week of  free-fire field with him at the U.S. Army All American game.  Not a Stanford coach in sight because they were all working on their resumes and figuring their futures.   There is a cost to staff turnover.  Ours didn\'t creep, it just jumped.

Somehow this one seems worse to me than Carlisle. Â Even though we still (for now) have Vaughters, and I suspect P. Skov could end up as quite a good LB, losing Sarao so suddenly sucks. Â We knew Carlisle had been considering a jump for some time.
If we can pick up Lake Koa-Ka\'i and/or Troy Niklas, the sting of these last couple of days would be relieved a bit.

Well, it\'s worse for the simple reason of depth chart. We could take zero running backs this year and still be in decent shape--that we\'re taking two four-stars and one three-star without Carlisle makes us, if anything, too loaded at the position.
Linebacker is completely different.

Actually, Jordan Perkins, the three star, may be ready to jump, though from what I understand there may be an issue with admissions in his case. Â I\'m not so bothered by the immediate depth chart at LB: S. Skov, C. Thomas, Leuders (if they don\'t move him to DE), all look great, and I have some high hopes for a couple of red-shirt freshen, Alex Turner and Joe Hemschoot. Â Add in Vaughters and P. Skov and always intriguing Alex Debniak.
But Sarao\'s case is so clearly a case of someone jumping because Harbaugh, or maybe in his case Fangio, disappeared. Â Garrett Gladd may have just wanted to stay closer to home; Carlisle seems drawn by Hollywood, Perkins may have an admissions issue. Â
Maybe our attitude should just be good riddance; if you were not really in this for the total Stanford experience, be on your way. Â Lets get back on the winning/recruiting wagon and kick U$C\'s collective a$$es for the next four years to provide both Carlisle and Sarao a regular reminder of where they COULD have been.

Got to give it to Kiffin...so hard to sell his situation and yet he seems to be doing well....

Maybe he is offering everyone the Reggie Bush package
Re: Crap - Pastor - 01-17-2011
Still you gotta wonder about kids making this decision....with no titles to play for and no post season and I suspect that they are now over their allotment of scholarship players. Â And, of course, the shine is off the Trojan armor.
Would Sarao have stayed even if JH had?
Three more admitted - Redrum - 01-17-2011
Devon Cajuste, 6\'4" 215, 3-star WR from NY
Ra\'chard Pippens, 3-star safety from Georgia
Lance Callihan, 6\'3" 290 DT , 3-star, from Louisiana
(sigh) Rivals reports Callihan might be looking at alternatives.

I agree that losing Sarao is bigger than losing Carlisle. Â The idea of pairing him with Vaughters for the next four years... And of the two, Vaughters was the one that looked uncertain. Â Hopefully he sticks.

Maybe Sarao is afraid we\'ll switch back to the 4-3? Â Or maybe he isn\'t sure he can beat out Vaughters, and he certainly can\'t beat out Skov?

Callihan possibly looking elsewhere even after being admitted is puzzling, especially since he could be in line for significant playing time. Â Maybe the uncertainty about DC is bothering him and he is hedging his bets?

USC runs a 4-3, it had nothing to do with it. It was known for almost 2 weeks that if Stanford lost their DC, Sarao was gone to USC. Stanford still has a solid class. As for Vaughters, watch out for Ohio State and Florida. Ohio State would be the team to beat.

Gotta get Remound Wright to work on him some more. He\'s something else!

I think Wright has something of the Shayn Skov in him: extroverted, charismatic, a real potential leader of this group of admits. Â I thought the same thing: I hope Wright can help hold the rest of this group together. Â
Also, even if Vaughters sticks with us (and I certainly hope that is the case), the LB I am most interested in seeing next year is Joe Hemschoot, who skipped a year in HS which means he had an extra year of growing to do. Â He was already a stud in high school, a lot like Sarao actually: a bit on the smallish side but with freakish athletic ability. Â If he shows up in Spring having gained about 20 pounds, we may really have something.
Sometimes I find myself doting too much on the star ratings and the flavor of the month and forget  the potential players that are hidden away during their redshirt year. Â

Yeah Harbaugh has really been stock-piling some nice talent the last 3 years. Stanford should be alright.

I agree we\'re in pretty good shape talent wise. Losing a few recruits from this year\'s class isn\'t our death knell.
The key thing is for Shaw to get the coaching staff, recruiting program, and on the field track record established so in future years we don\'t lose the Anthony Sarao\'s.
Yeah, but... - Redrum - 01-18-2011
It would hurt less if Sarao were going to his original love: Rutgers. We will end up playing against this very talented kid.
Also, there is an opportunity to shift the balance of power in the Pac-12 with the (deserved) sanctions weakening USC. Maybe not permanently, but a window of opportunity for other schools. Their ability to power through the sanctions relatively undiminished leaves the rest of the Pac holding the consolation prize. USC\'s weakness is an opportunity for us (and others) that they can recruit well despite their problems does not bode well.
For braveheart: Â I kinda liked the new paradigm for Stanford football. Â In the past we would constantly reassure ourselves that our, say, 2-star guys would somehow magically become 4-star players. Â It does happen, Â but a better, more reliable model, Â one we have partially accomplished, Â is to get a whole bunch of 4-star guys and have them compete against each other. Â I think a better model is having a guy like Shayne Skov come in and just dominate at the position. Â That\'s better than hoping a serviceable LB like Bergen will suddenly start playing out of his skull. Â Â It improves the breed, it raises individual performances, Â if for no other reason than who the players play against every day in practice.
We have not exhausted our talent pool. Â Some of the redshirts will develop and emerge, Â but if you\'re not going forward, replenishing and
improving talent with every class, Â gravity takes hold and suddenly Stanford could be a 7-5 team year after year.
Hey, I agree -
JohnR34231 - 01-18-2011
It\'s unfortunate for us that USC has been able to retain the recruiting momentum despite their misfortunes and that we seem to be losing a little of ours.
Just saying that the loss of Sarao, and even Vaughters (if OSU turns him) is not reason to reach for the cyanide bottle quite yet.
Re: Crap -
yvonne - 01-18-2011
They will be able to back date only so long. It will have an effect, even if it\'s 3 years from now.
Re: Crap - Pastor - 01-18-2011
It is why we take a step back because JH left and until Shaw establishes himself. Â How far back is the question.
But I wonder how Kiffin is selling it....
