No pro team is interested in him leaving UCLA either.
Jim's announcement is like breaking up with a girl before she does it first.

Good news. I worry a little bit that if Mora leaves in a year or so, they will bring in somebody who can coach them up to their talent and he will actually take advantage of the talent Mora has recruited.

I'll bet his AD had a nice chuckle over that one.

I've read several times that there are pro teams that would be interested in Mora if he were interested in leaving UCLA. Perhaps it was just a figment of the writer's imagination.

Seems like nobody wanted the coaches who wanted to leave: Mora, Dykes, RichRod

Apparently the ol' Chipper is also not in high demand:

I get the sense he really doesn't want to come back to college, like it would be admit defeat.

Well, he has under-performed to the level of 9 wins, 10 wins, 10 wins, 8 wins.
That seems a little less than the talent on his team, but not exactly Buddy/Wlat levels.
And of course he did get much of the current talent to come to UCLA.
His teams do seem particularly unsuited to playing Stanford however.

But
expectations are a witches' brew of unrealistic desire for perfection and the reality that some games are much more important than others. If Mora continues to deliver mostly wins but no key wins (USC, Stanford, conference championship) then things could get dicey.

Isn't Mora 3-1 against USC? He's horrible against us, yeah, but he's done okay against their real rival.

Yeah, I've been a bit surprised by the condemnation of Mora as a coach. Which year can people identify in which the team underperformed its talent? UCLA has had good, but not outstanding, talent in most of its three years...and has performed as a good, not outstanding, team. The exception was this year, when virtually all of its outstanding talent got injured, forcing a true freshman QB to carry the team. As I've alluded to before, that's usually not a plan for success. He's done fine.

I think it mostly comes from that fact that he can't beat Stanford. It sure does look like he's been out-coached by Shaw pretty much every year.

I suspect all UCLA wants him to do is beat the Trojans. Everything else is gravy. He did for three years but not this year. If he fails next year his seat will get hot. My source, UCLA equipment mgr. impeccable.

Mora's teams have been out-physicaled and less focused (see: team drama) lately. I'm very thankful for the Stanford coaching staff's ability to get our players to focus on doing their jobs and doing it well.

I have no idea why, but this problem has existed at UCLA for a long time, certainly pre-Mora.

9, 10, 10, and 8 wins would be a great record if you were WSU, OSU, Cal, either of the Arizonas, Colorado, or Utah. Mora is good, but appears to lack what it takes to take UCLA to the next level. A good, but not elite UCLA suits us just fine.

I mean, it's a pretty solid track record at UCLA too. Mora's .698 at UCLA; the school's all-time record is .588. And I imagine the conference is more difficult than usual.
As you say, he's a cut below the elite. I just find the emphasis on what's wrong with Mora to be misplaced.

I think part of it is that they are repeatedly picked to win the Pac-12 South or the overall Pac-12 or to even be a playoff team, and they keep coming up short. Maybe that's the predicter's fault and not theirs, but it does help stick the underperforming label to them.
