Week 7 in opponents -

Not sure I want to watch Iowa-Northwestern, but it exists.

So far this looks a lot like our game against Northwestern. But Iowa's starting RB just got his ankle rolled up on. AIRBHG strikes again, it seems.

I'm not sure if it makes more sense to root for Northwestern in the interest of strengthening Stanford's SOS, or to root against them to make clear what an anomaly Stanford's loss to them was.
If I didn't see it with my own eyes, it would be impossible for me to believe this terrible Northwestern team beat Stanford.

So far it's a 3-0 slugfer where Northwestern has 28 total yards in the quarter.

Bad tackling by NW leads to Iowa TD.
If we replay that game, what's the score? Like 40-10? Still can't believe we lost that.

Go Memphis?

Northwestern D against Iowa looks like UCLA's against Stanford.
NU now outscored 78-10 in last two weeks. Pretty sure this is going to help Stanford now. People are just going to be more convinced the early start time for Stanford intuit game explains what is otherwise inexplicable.

Been watching Memphis in its upset bid of Ole Miss. I would be distressed if SC did something reasonable like, say, hire Memphis's Justin Fuente as coach.*
* (this isn't just based on this game; I've seen Memphis play a few times. They've always had that drilled, confident look of a well-coached team.)

Memphis has won something like 13 in a row. Fuente is no secret. USC knows all about him. But here's the thing. The Memphis QB is really, really good. Having a great QB can make you look really good as a head coach, when maybe you aren't. Ask Jeff Tedford, Mark Helfrich, and Chip Kelly, to name a few.

Chip Kelly went undefeated with Darron Thomas, and won 10 games -- twice -- in the NFL with Nick Foles. He's no QB creation.

I wish I could find the tweet to credit it, but it went something like "Fuente's Power 5 audition continues today against Ole Miss"

That was Iowa's backup running back going for 192 yards and 4 Touchdowns. That was just 6 yards less and three touchdowns more than Northwestern had as a team.

Washington State demolishing Oregon State 45-17 at halftime. The trip up north might be tricky...

I was about to post that. Luke Falk's line is sick. 28-33 for 323 yards, 6 TD's at the half. Six touchdowns! At the half. As amazing as McCaffrey's performance has been, the only thing that would earn him the pllayer of the week is that he did it against a ranked team, while Falk is going up against the weakest team in the conference. And still Falk is probably the favorite to get it now.

Oregon State is the worst team in the Pac-12. They stink out loud.
Re: Week 7 in opponents -

The second half is the definition of "reverting to the mean". Falk throws a pair of INT's and though wsu will still win easily, the line looks less like a video game.

Have we decided which team to hold our nose and not root against between SC and ND?
I probably want Notre Dame to lose more. USC already has turmoil this year, a loss to the Domers doesn't hurt them that much... On the other hand a loss by UDFG to the Trojans takes them out of the playoff hunt.

Yeah, I'd have to say we want ND as highly rated as possible when we play them at the end, because if (see, no woofing) we have won all of our games until then we would like that game to look like a quarterfinal game in the playoffs. Not that playing a 2 or 3 loss ND wouldn't also look good, but we want 1-loss Stanford beating 1-loss ND to be super-fresh in everyone's minds.
USC could lose and shake it off to the first game of a new coach. Then they can bounce back the following week and beat Cal in an emotional victory in Berkeley.

I think it's probably better for us if ND wins.

Toejams score on their first drive after Kessler makes a couple great plays escaping pressure.
On the pregame they showed Pat Haden collapsing on the sidelines and being helped off the field. No word on what it was, but didn't look good.
